  • Carson Palmer (USC/#1 overall pick) Cincinnati Bengals. A great quarterback, who was a potential Super Bowl winning one in only his third season in the league (and second season as a starter)—until a (you guessed it) Steeler tore up his knee…
  • Byron Leftwich (Marshall/7th overall pick) Jacksonville Jaguars. He rubbed Coach Jack Del Rio the wrong way one time too many. He may soon be fighting for the starting position against Atlanta’s Joey Harrington. That’s Joey Harrington. Can his career go any lower right now?
  • Kyle Boller (California/19th overall pick) Baltimore Ravens. Offensive ‘guru’ Brian Billick’s ego tried to remake him into a super field general. Experiment failed.
  • Rex Grossman (Florida/22nd overall pick) Chicago Bears. If he had taken notes from Trent Dilfer for tips on protecting the ball and allowing the defense to win the championship for you, it still wouldn’t have helped him.
  • Dave Ragone (Louisville/3rd round pick) Houston Texans. Poor guy. Never had a chance behind Dave Carr, who was finally replaced by a backup. He didn’t make any headway on the Rams’ depth chart. He worked out for the quarterback starved Browns last year, didn’t make the team and is currently out of the league.
  • Chris Simms (Texas/3rd round pick) Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Being the son of a Super Bowl winning quarterback hasn’t helped him any. Neither has injuries… or surgery complications… or Jeff Garcia…
  • Seneca Wallace (Iowa State/4th round pick) Seattle Seahawks. Good backup who is still chasing Doug Flutie’s dream of being a short, starting quarterback in the NFL.
  • Brian St. Pierre (Boston College/5th round pick) Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers wanted him. Kept him for a couple of seasons. Cut him. The Ravens wanted him. Kept him for a year. Cut him. Ben Roethlisberger’s appendix was killing him, so the Steelers signed as an emergency quarterback. He’s still buried on the Steelers’ depth chart… for now…
  • Drew Henson (Michigan/6th round pick) Houston Texans. Marco? Polo?
  • Brooks Bollinger (Wisconsin/6th round pick) New York Jets. Currently buried on the depth charts behind ’06 second round pick Tarvaris Jackson and undrafted Kelly Holcomb.
  • Kliff Kingsbury (Texas Tech/6th round pick) New England Patriots. Think Bollinger has it bad? Try being buried on the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback depth chart.
  • Gibran Hamdan (Indiana/7th round pick) Washington Commanders. Career highlight: NFL Europe Offensive MVP 2006. Career lowlights: out of pro football in ’04 and ’05. Bounced around with the Commanders, 49ers and Seahawks. NFL.com has his bio and picture for the Dolphins, but Miami’s official site doesn’t have him listed anywhere.
  • Ken Dorsey (Miami, FL/7th round pick) San Francisco 49ers. He’s a Cleveland Brown now, backing up current backup Brady Quinn.
Undrafted Tony Romo..?

Pro Bowl quarterback who benched a previous #1 drafted overall pick (Bledsoe), who’s hated immensely by CowboyBlog, but loved to death by CrazyCowboy.

Life is good.

Amazing to think that we have the 2nd best qb out of that draft class.
I really think Parcells was able to bring Romo along slowly like they did back in the day, because he was an undrafted FA.
If you sign a qb high in the draft there is a lot of pressure to play them right away because of media and fan pressure. Not to mention salary cap being in place today.
Most qb's do not last or have great careers if they play a lot in thier rookie seasons. Most are not mentally tough enough to survive it.
Marino and Aikman are guys who immediately jump to mind as qb's that were mentally tough enough.
Aikman really took a beating...amazing that he weathered that!

Good stuff, CC.

Is there a better QB than Romo in the NFC? Brees? Bulger? I'll take Tony.

I liked it. I hadn't really thought about the Romo and Grossman connection. That makes it a little more interesting.

You know what? I've got a great idea! You should start a poll, change the results about a dozen times to suit your neuroticism about Romo, and laugh yourself silly about it! What do ya say? Get cracking guy! :D
