Folks, this team is just missing one thing - The knock out blow! That is it! We just can not get the knock out blow!

This team has talent, it gives 110%, it wants to win, and it has been in the position to win every game.

I have no doubts we can beat any team in the league, any team!

We are 3 plays away from being 7-0. Yes, 3 plays!

This team has come along ways since last year, and even our first Pre-Season game, a long ways, but the one thing we have not been able to aquire yet is the ability for the knock out blow! And the blame for this goes around to everyone, the players and coaches, and there are various reasons, but that is what we need!

I dont care what anyone says, the future is bright with this Football team over the next couple of years, and I really feel good about that. We just need that punishing right hook!

I know some are a little down about the Defense in the last couple of minutes right now, but you have to check this out-

We faced the TOP 3 Offenses in the NFL 3 weeks in a row and the combined numbers are staggering.

Total Yards Given up - 688 average of 229
Rushing Yards Given up - 182 average of 61
Passing Yards Given up - 506 average of 169
3rd Down % - 6 for 36 average of 17%
9 Sacks - average of 3 a game
7 Forced Turnovers - Average of 2.3
29 Total Points allowed for an average of 9.6

This Defense is on its way, and will only get better over the next couple of years with all the young talent.

Today was a very hard day to take, but we are so, so close to something very special IMO, but I have huge concerns about our Offensive Tackles right now, it could sabotage a potentially great season. We will see!

Regardless the talent has been injected into this squad, and I see no reason why it will not continue to do so.

We can play with anybody, anywhere, anytime, BUT WE HAVE TO DELIVER THE KNOCK OUT BLOW!

Gee, and I thought this was gonna be a video of Bill roundhousing Payton or uppercutting Haley,

but...

GREAT post, Champs.

What pains the most is knowing that for a handful of plays, we would be undefeated.

But what encourages the most is knowing the D is making such progress, despite the late game breakdowns.

1. The quality of draft we had this year.
2. The value of our free agent moves.
3. The speed at which we have absorbed the new system.
4. How well the rookies fit into the system.
5. How well Glover and Ellis fit in.
6. The value of Parcells plan.
7. Sorry Wolverine, but how well Zimmer has adjusted and is calling the defence.

Bads.

1. How poorly we are playing defence in the last two minutes.
2. How much difficulty we are having in coverage with our present strong safety.
3. Despite our defence's efforts we still need an offence.

well those stats are putting the ownus on the defesne winning us games,

but the truth is our defense has kept us in games we should have won but lost because of total lack of offensive execution, but thats probably the knock out blow your talking about.

My biggest fear is to become the Baltimore Raves...an amazing defense with an offense that cant score consistantly

Champs, I agree overall with your viewpoint, and you are absolutely right, the future is bright. However, every year I believe Parcells more and more when he says "you are what your record says you are". Yes, if we could have those 3 plays turn out differently we'd be 7-0, but that still wouldn't mask the fact that we have run stagnant on offense a few times this season, are adjusting to the growing pains of a rookie right tackle, and could improve significantly in our interior line play on offense.

To put it another way, we could be 7-0 with those plays turning out differently, but that certainly wouldn't make us the Indianapolis Colts.

The defense is getting there fast. And it's young, the future looks very bright in that regard.

That being said... Al johnson needs to be replaced with Gurode, Rivera needs to be reminded how much damn money he makes, Cortez needs to be shown the door Monday morning and I would like to see Allen chase him out of town, Petitti needs the help more than Tucker next week, the coaching staff needs to change it's strategy in the red zone, and why do we have a fullback on this team? Better we should just keep an extra kicker because anyone who misses a 28 yarder should be escorted out of the stadium immediately.

Bledsoe needs to be told unequivocally that if he wants leeway, he is not to make throws like that. He did it twice today. He needs 3 yards for a first down and he forces it down field, plus the one at the end I won't ever talk about.

Great post. I understand your optimism and I am ecstatic about how our defense is playing so early in the season. They've been a little inconsistent - like the 49ers game - but they've gotten better and more consistent each and every game. It's just frustrating to lose such close games while being on top in each and every one of them, because each game in the NFL is a dogfight. And you can't predict for injuries which will cause you more grief because of possible losses as a result.

But, I'm getting tired of "almost" being there, and then having it blow up in our faces. For example, the D playing great for 58 minutes and then somehow letting multiple teams comeback on them in two minutes. And the D providing plenty of opportunities for the offense and the offense not being able to move an average of 13 yards in two attempts to score 14 points. It's pathetic, and all that really matters is how many wins and losses you have, not how great your stats look.

"You are what you are" - says BP and we are 4-3.

I think the way this team has lost is what hurts the most. To know that you had the better team - at least on that day - and still find a way to screw it up stings a lot.
