The same names have been thrown around a lot at #18 and after awhile it gets sort of tiresome. So here is a draft that has a few surprising names, but that doesn't mean they are bad football players.
First of all, there is a slight trade down in my mock. Alec Ogletree is available at #18 and Minnesota and Chicago would like to jump ahead of the Giants to select him. We decide to trade with Minnesota and in this scenario we #23 and #83 (175 pts) from Minnesota (760 pts)for #18( 900 pts) and #185 (17.4 pts)
#23 - Datone Jones - DE/DT UCLA
This is a guy I fell in love with at the Senior Bowl. He is 6'4, 283 and he carries that without an ounce of fat on him. He can win on the outside, but I think he is at his best when he can come in and rush inside on third downs. Extremely hard worker and high motor. He was the only pass-rusher at the senior bowl who gave Eric Fisher any kind of trouble. Fisher even whiffed aganist him a few times because of his quickness. Jones has explosive hands and to me, he reminds me of a young Justin Tuck.
Another trade: This time Dallas targets a guy they love. They send #47 and #83 (605 pts) to Cincinnati for #37, #118, #197 (600 pts.)
#37 - DeAndre Hopkins - WR Clemson
Everyone knows how much I like Hopkins. He falls to the 2nd round because of a run on QB's late in the first via trade ups and a slow 40 time. Dallas obviously believes there is a need at WR, hence bringing in Hopkins and Terrence Williams for private workouts. Hopkins is an outside WR who wins by running precise routes and his consistent hands. I believe he is a perfect compliment to Dez Bryant and Dwayne Harris. A real steal at #37.
#80 - Marcus Lattimore - RB South Carolina
This is another future pick. Murray is in year three of a four year deal and who knows what the future holds for him. Lattimore is a typical Jason Garrett kind of player because of his high character and team-first attitude. Lattimore might be ready for Week 1, but I would also expect Dallas to be patient with him and bring in another RB via FA. Explosive, tough runner who can do it all.
One Final Trade: Dallas Trades #114 and #118 (124 pts) to Baltimore for #94 (124 pts.)
#94 - Barrett Jones - OC/OG Alabama
A highly intelligent, hard worker who can play multiple positions for Dallas. He falls to us this late because of injury and I believe can start day one at center.
#151 - JJ Wilcox - S Georgia Southern
Physical safety who can really hit. He falls to the 5th round because of the depth at safety. I really like the safety rotation of Church, Allen, Johnson and Wilcox. Can help right away on ST.
#197 - Michael Williams - TE Alabama
He is a solid blocker who can contribute on STs. Instantly our 3rd TE and at this point in the draft, you are just looking for guys who can make the team and can contribute.
