Exactly. Everyone is soooo ready to go into next year with Roy Williams as our premier receiver, an unproven Miles Austin, and a gregarious but very slow Patrick Crayton.
Roy had 189 yards this year in 10 games, against single coverage. He looked dumb, ran poor routes, and couldn't get any separation. Blame the injury all you want, I see exactly why the Lions were ready to see him go.
Owens demands 2 guys' attention from the defense, no one else is going to do that. Imagine Williams, Crayton, and Witten trying to get separation - they just may be the slowest receiving core in the league, outside of Messiah Austin.
Be careful what you wish for.
The rationale is that with TO gone, more receivers can get into the flow of the passing game.
I know this has been debated ad nauseam but it really felt like to me that they (JG, Romo) were forcing the ball to TO to keep him happy.
So take TO out of the mix and replace the looks he was getting with throws to Bennett, Felix, Choice, and Austin. I gotta believe those guys' combined production could at least equal what was gotten from TO. And defenses can't just key on 1 guy in this scenario.
Not to mention what Roy11 might be capable of without worrying about stepping on TO's toes.
And all this can be done in the natural flow of the offense, i.e. throwing to the open receiver instead of forcing it to one guy half the time.
TO is a great physical talent. But don't forget that Bennett and Felix look like they may be just as physically gifted. Both of those guys looked faster and/or stronger than the guys on defense that were trying to deal with them.
Bottom line; there is plenty of athletic talent on this team to cover up for losing TO.
