- Further proof that the most important player on the field is the QB. I think the days of "Well Trent Dilfer" did such and such are over. Trent too would have been in trouble had he been forced to shoulder the load.

- Defense wins championships is a nice cliche and that is about it.

- The AFC is better. All the moaning to the contrary is just that. Aspiring to be the best team in the NFC is nice, but all NFC teams better be shooting to be better than than the elite AFC teams.

- Devin Hester IS easily worth a second round pick.

- The Payton Manning hate can stop now, but it won't. However, he just cemented his place in history as one of the very best to play the game.

I totally agree about the importance of the QB position, but if you think Peyton wins this SB without the Colts D COMPLETELY reversing itself from it's late season form, then you missed what really won this tournament for the Colts.

If you look at the playoffs, the Colts D was the most dominant D of all the teams, so I would say D winning Championships is NOT just a nice cliche.

Manning had almost nothing to do with any of the 4 Colts playoff wins...

they played alot better defense, ran the ball pretty good and probably got lucky to end up with games vs the Chiefs and Patriots

I don't know about that, the Colt's D was what kept the Colts alive when Manning was tossing 5 picks

I'm still wondering how the heck the Colts Defense did a complete U Turn in the playoffs?

They stuffed Larry Johnson, they stuffed Baltimore's running game, and they did a great job all in all vs. the Bears offense as well.

He didn't lose it for them. Does that count?

Manning's biggest problem throughout his career is probably that the offense has always focused on him. Finally they are figuring out that an offense does it as a TEAM and are letting others (ie - RBs), make plays.

That's pretty dismissive. I doubt Jim Sorgi rallies them against New England.

He wasn't used properly. He was an excellent back, but they never used the running game the way it should have gone.

Think back to that INT the Colts grabbed on the goalline against the Ravens in the 4th quarter of their playoff game. The Ravens had the ball inside the 10 and a TD would have given them the lead, but McNair tried to force one into tight coverage. That one play may have saved the Colts.

Umm... yeah, I'd say Manning was fairly important in the AFC Championship game. :)

I disagree about the defense thing....had that defense not stepped up in the playoffs the Colts would have been picking tee times after Baltimore.

Manning and the colts have always been able to defeat teh 4-3 defense. Good ol Peyton Manning has big time trouble with the 3-4 not the Chicago 4-3,,,advantage Manning........and Superbowl Champs Colts.....

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO SWITCH TO THE 4-3 jerry Jones

Who cares what the Colts D was this season, once they got in the tournament their D turned into a Run-stuffing, turnover-producing machine!

My point about the defense does not focus on a few games.

When people say "Defense Wins Championships" it is usually talked about in a building your team kind of way or a big picture kind of way.

It is not usually talked about in terms of whoever plays defense better today.

The better defense is that of the Bears. The better defense today was that of the Colts.

Not arguing the important of defense, just that cliches do not win championships, but overall good play on both sides of the ball, special teams, and good coaching wins championships.

I'm just saying, if you don't have any semblence of a D, you're not winning a championship, it's not the end all, beat all, but it's right up there

I do not disagree at all. I am mainly taking a stab at those who preached "defense wins championships" and "bus driver" and using the 2000 Ravens as a good example of how team building should be done.
