A Few Serious Questions

Now that Bryant is out for a month or so, who is going to be the primary receiver - Witten?
Were you impressed with the Cowboys running game?
Did the Cowboys play THAT poorly or were they sleep walking through the game, which often happens against supposedly inferior opponents? They shouldn't have been but MAYBE they were looking ahead to next week.
I find it hard to believe that the Giants are THAT good or that the Cowboys are THAT bad - but, I guess we will see.

Giants played well enough to win.
We played bad enough to lose.
Eli gave us a chance.

I think this comes back to lack of game reps in the preseason.
Running game will pick up a bit now that we go on the road. Hopefully we can get close to the last years 8 - 0 road record.

Please come back tomorrow and check in after the Eagles game and give us your thoughts on how they played.

As much as anything, it was really just 2 things IMO. Turnovers changed the entire game as we gave the Giants 17 of their 26 points. Also this was the first time many of the starters have played in a real game in 8 months because of our preseason stragedy.

Serious questions:

Why can't you guys EVER win the SB?

Why do you show up in the beginning of the year all puffed up and then disappear when we beat the pants off you?

Turnovers were the reason for this game being close last night.

It never should have been but Dallas gift wrapped 17 free points for the Giants last night.

Who are we playing next week, anyway? Is it the Eagles? The way he's asking, I bet it's the Eagles.

Who's puffed up? I'm not here saying that my team is better than yours. That would be childish.
The people who have responded are blaming last night's near loss on the turnovers and a lack of preparation during the preseason. O.K. Those are intelligent answers.

O.K. I will do that - win or lose. Last year their secondary was hideous. I am HOPING that there is improvement there. Otherwise it could be another year of not making the playoffs. With Atlanta's defense so bad last year, worse than the Eagles, it could be a very high scoring game.

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but *actually* from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint - it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff.

Frankly, I didn't see enough of the running game to pass judgement. Yes they played that poorly. Do I think it will be the norm? Not even for a second. There were quite a few really weird scenarios in this game, leading to points for the other team. Not one but two returns (OK one didnt get in, but it was one yard) for touchdowns by that defense? They won the lottery, because that defense wasn't particularly good. The 37+ time of possession pretty much backs that up.

You are here now and asking "serious questions" and won't be here if we make the playoffs and you don't

I don't believe that last night's game was the norm either. I just don't understand why they didn't seem to be excited about the game.
Many times turnovers are the result of a lack of concentration.
Do I expect them to play better, with more enthusiasm against the Eagles? - Yes.
Will the loss of Bryant hurt? - Yes
Is the Dallas running game going to provide a threat? - Apparently no one knows.

The Cowboys actually played really well, except for the 3 turnovers.

They had very good execution on offense, defense and special teams. The fact that they overcame the 3 turnovers means that they actually had to play an incredible game in all other areas.

This. The Cowboys completely dominated that game, but the -3 turnover ratio, and two turnovers returned (essentially) for TDs, kept the Giants in it. Yes, we were a little sloppy, but so were the Giants, and if you watched a lot of football this weekend, you saw that most teams in the league were: it's week 1.

As much as I love Witten (my favorite Cowboy of all time), I don't see him being the primary target even without Dez. While a great security blanket, he has no potential for yardage after the catch, so wherever the ball is thrown, that's where it will be spotted 99% of the time (give or take a couple yards).

My money is on either Dunbar or Beasley being the primary target.

John_S will be back, guys. I can feel it. He's probably just over asking a few Serious Questions on the various Eagles message boards.

Our preseason strategy and how training camp is ran leads to these very out of sync opening games.
