There is an old saying that if you forget history, you are doomed to repeat it...

  • Week after week, countless NFL teams repeat history by installing the prevent defense only to lose via the soft zone. We were no different last night.
  • We dominated this game outside of three plays. The two TD's and the Brunell run on third and long.
  • Drew Bledsoe still has it.
  • Flozell is getting an unfair rep as a "holder". Both of those calls against him were very questionable. That being said, he needs to be extra careful.
  • Was Cortez first FG a miss? it looked like it went straight over the left goal post and they only showed it once. It could have been a bad angle for me.
  • San Francisco is in trouble next week. A win last night could have made Dallas a bit complacent. This "defeat snatched from the jaws of victory" last night should teach Dallas to finish games.
  • This team is pretty solid on defense/offense.
  • Julius would have had around 100 yards had not a few runs been called back.
  • Tyson Thompson needs more touches
  • This team will be a tough opponent for any team later this year.
  • We have things to work on, but we are going in the right direction.
  • Don't take this defeat too hard, we did the same thing to them in the second game last year. It's ONE loss.
  • Overall Payton did a good job of calling plays, but like the rooks, he will make some mistakes and needs experience as well.
  • I try very much to be a realist and I really like the direction this team is moving in.

Agree with most of this; Zimmer and BP made some bad personel calls late in the game- not making sure Moss was covered the critical mistake. Some play calling was bad as well. The holding thing on the Hotel has to be addressed- he needs to be put on the rack. But the O line as a whole played better. We made progress in several areas- but still lost. THAT hurts.

Both of those holds called on Adams were bogus. The first one, he just pancaked a guy.

I couldn't agree more with you, trick.

Is it just me, or did the missed FG look like it went over the top of the upright? I guess that means no good. They only showed the replay once.

Just quoting Trickblue here, along w/ my thoughts.

There is an old saying that if you forget history, you are doomed to repeat it...

  • Week after week, countless NFL teams repeat history by installing the prevent defense only to lose via the soft zone. We were no different last night.

While I agree, RW should be held responsible for letting Moss get deep TWICE. He is a great run stopper and tackling machine, but his cover skills just don't cut it. He should have picked off that one pass, but to let Moss go by him TWICE, is well....unexusable. RW should know better by now.

  • We dominated this game outside of three plays. The two TD's and the Brunell run on third and long.

Agreed, but you can't take ANY plays off in a 60 minute game. I'm so frustrated.

  • Drew Bledsoe still has it.

He does still have it, but he sure does look awful throwing short hops late in the game. If he'd square up and let her rip, instead of throwing off balance, the game would have been over earlier. He didn't step into his throws and it cost us some key first downs.

  • Flozell is getting an unfair rep as a "holder". Both of those calls against him were very questionable. That being said, he needs to be extra careful.

I'd call those holding calls complete and utter BS, but that's how it goes sometimes. You win some, you lose some.

  • Was Cortez first FG a miss? it looked like it went straight over the left goal post and they only showed it once. It could have been a bad angle for me.

Yes, it was a miss. Very close, but a miss nonetheless. He scared the hell out of me every time he lined up. If it came down to the last second FG, which it didn't, I had no faith in him making it.

  • San Francisco is in trouble next week. A win last night could have made Dallas a bit complacent. This "defeat snatched from the jaws of victory" last night should teach Dallas to finish games.

It should help bolster the awareness for the young guys, but honestly, the young guys played great last night. The veterans needed to step up late, and they didn't.

  • This team is pretty solid on defense/offense.

Pretty solid won't cut it. They need to be SOLID for 4 quarters. I think when Fujita is ready the defense will be even more improved.

  • Julius would have had around 100 yards had not a few runs been called back.

IMHO, they should have ran a few reverses, fake reverses. That defense is AGGRESSIVE, they should have made them pay for it.

  • Tyson Thompson needs more touches

He needs more touches on sweeps, he can't do much up the gut. Hell, JJ couldn't do much up the gut last night. That 3rd down call after the timeout to setup a FG was an absolute disgrace.

  • This team will be a tough opponent for any team later this year.

    Agreed.

  • We have things to work on, but we are going in the right direction.

Agreed. And to lose like that will cause them to work that much harder to get there.

  • Don't take this defeat too hard, we did the same thing to them in the second game last year. It's ONE loss.

Man, this one is tough. We DOMINATED for 56 minutes. I personally thought it was going to be a shutout, then RW in a COVER 2 let's Moss get by him TWICE!!!!!!! ARGH....I'm still fuming about it.

  • Overall Payton did a good job of calling plays, but like the rooks, he will make some mistakes and needs experience as well.

Yes, he definitely made mistakes. I thought the play calling was a little too conservative at the end. But that is Parcells football, what can you do. It has won him a ton of games, we just fell short this time.

  • I try very much to be a realist and I really like the direction this team is moving in.

I'm very confident in this team, it's just 1 game, but it hurts....REALLY REALLY bad.

It's my take, others will disagree, but man....TOUGH loss. :(

Agree with those thoughts and add one more. We still haven't replaced Darren Woodson.

I must say after watching a couple weeks of both college and pro football that holding, as we all once knew it, is gone. There is holding on every play. It is called arbitrarily. I think that the general view of the officials is it must be very blatent to ever get a call or they just do not call it. Didn't one of the Flozell calls negate a first down and make it something like 3rd and 20?

I noticed he was in on several plays last night and looked good. I think he was a great pickup.

Parcells and Zimmer deserve no blame for those two TD's. They had the right defensive call. Roy let the guy get behind him twice. Inexcusable.

My breakdown is as follows:

We played a good game. Not great, but good.
We clearly dominated the game aside from 2 blown plays.
They did not have one sack, one INT, one fumble... nothing.
I usually don't mention officiating but we got the shaft on the Adams holding penalty and a huge roughing the passer call when they were throwing out of their endzone.
We shoulda ran more towards the end of the game.
Cortez sucks... cut him now.

I agree. Safety can't allow the deep man to get behind him and Williams did it twice. Up to that point Williams had a great game going but made a couple of big mistakes at the end.

So did we have the right defense called for a 25 yard scamper by an OLD Vick-like QB. :laugh2:

My point is.... we should have never been in that positon to begin with.

Perfect post....my thoughts exactly......I was just too sad to put in words!

The only point you make that I need to work on is the following:

"Don't take this defeat too hard, we did the same thing to them in the second game last year. It's ONE loss."

OS, on Moss' first touchdown, RW was covering the slot receiver who was running a post underneath the wide out. RW recognized and turned to help, but didn't get there in time.

I will agree with you on the second one however, that he was too slow in turning around to run with Moss.

Ya know, I have to agree with most of the points Trickblue made, however, I dont really blame Roy for the first TD, it was the corner who got beat by a double move and when roy saw it, he tried to get back there but couldnt.......the 2nd, there is no excuse. I thought overall the play calling was mediocre. We should have attacked them a little more in the first half, they were biting on EVERYTHING, and I think Payton was too nervous to call anything. I bet it was BP that got in is arse at halftime and told him to give us a litlle excitement. I think Derw's arm may have been tired there towards the end of the game, JMO. All in all, I'm happy with how our team played, especially the O-line. We'll get the skins in their house later, they'll wish they didnt have to play us again after that game.
