i just watched it & WOW! What a great man & a great player. It must have been fun watching him.

He is so torn up physically from football though. Great guy though. He works hard on rehab & has no "poor me" in his demeanor.

One of the best shows in that series I've seen.

I grew up in Houston and my dad had season tickets to all the Oilers games from the late '70s to 1990. I only went to see the games I wanted(Dallas and the like) but I enjoyed watching Earl and Stabler play. I didn't appreciate it then but I do now, what a player.

On a side note, Ernest Givens used to play with a fraternity in our flag football intramural league(while playing in Houston still). Not sure how he was allowed to do that since he played pro and wasn't in College, but I digress. My claim to fame.......I smoked him on a fly route for a 76yd TD catch and I was not very fast. We won the trophy on that play :flagwave:

Sweet story......
Wes Welker came out and played in a couple games in a winter flag football league I was playing in a few years ago. He was pretty cool, very unassuming and if you passed him in walmart youd never guess he was a NFL player. He was extremely quick tho. Also played with several ex OU and OSU players as well including Charles Thompson and Jamelle Holieway.

Isnt Givens the one that would always do the electric slide when he scored?

I watched it and thought it was very good. I wouldn't label it as the best (I preferred Marty Schottenheimer's as the best), but you saw Earl as a just a very good person with very little ego despite being a superstar that raised some good kids. I didn't know that him being in a wheelchair was due to a spine disease. I've always been told that you should try and avoid back surgery at all costs and Earl Campbell is living proof of that.

I never hated Wade here although I will never understand why he went from being tough on the players in 2009 and had the most success he's ever had with a team as he won his only playoff game and then went back to his old ways. But, I do admire the type of team and attitude towards football that Bum Phillips brought to the league. There is a ton of money and high expectations, but in the end the game should be fun. And Bum was smart enough to not have a big ego and that's why he and Earl jived so well together. Most coaches would have demanded that Early do the box drill and learn to run backwards and not play Earl until he get it right while Bum just said well, we just won't have him run backwards.

great show indeed.

I've always respected Earl just from what I've read & seen on video. Amp that up 100 times now.

Great guy & great player. It's heartbreaking that he is in such horrific condition with his back injuries but he doesn't feel sorry for himself & that is so admirable.

I'm a huge fan now!

The "Tyler Rose" I never liked Houston as a team but I did like some of their players like Earl Campbell for one. He was one tough hombre to get down and he would try to run through you. I knew he was in bad shape but I attributed it to all the hits he both gave and received while playing at Texas and with Houston. He was a joy to watch, can't wait to see this episode.

Earl at one time has screws in his spine that were rubbing on nerves. He was in extreme pain 24 hours a day. Never ended. I so admire the guy for being so strong. I am jealous of fans who saw great players like him.

I was just a kid when Earl played. Although I really only paid attention to the Dallas games, my parents did also watch Oilers games, living so close to Houston, it was the thing to do I guess. I remember seeing Earl running over and through people. I remember his legs were as big as trees. lol.

I will say this show on him was fantastic. I have seen a lot of Football Life's and it was one of the best ones. Maybe I am partial and that is why I feel this way. But I have to say that I always knew Earl was a good guy, but I never knew he was as sweet, sweet of a man as he is. He is just beautiful and precious. He married his high school sweetheart, they are still together today, they have two beautiful wonderful sons, and he had two fantastic parents that raised their eleven children to have class and respect. And you work through your pain and troubles, and at the end of the day you eat and go to bed. A true old school family, with a great old school set of values that has lasted for generations now. I love it. Earl is a champion, not only on the field, but in life. And once again, Earl Campbell is a very sweet, beautiful man.
