purely speculative but fun lookin at diferent ideas and scenarios

with a plethoria of impending free agents the cowboys have a few holes already to fill and some that will be impacted by not resigning some upcoming free agents and roster cuts.
im going to june 1st carr meaning that unless claiborne is resigned (he isnt in my scenario) that its likely the cowboys will need atleast 2 corners.
also im letting ro mac test free agency aswell as cutting his namesake who is a mythical force at dt for us seeing as he spends more time in the physio room than claiborne, lee and romo combined.
Doug free is another that meets the turk purely for cap reasons and a decline in performance.
And barry church is my final cut.tugh choice between he and jj wilcox but church gets his papers because wilcox is younger, cheaper and has a higher ceiling whilst offering more on st.
So although we had a reasonable level at talent across the board ive now created holes at corner, mlb and rt aswell as ss.However if we are to give damien wilson and chaz green a chance in the final 2 games some of these holes could possiby be none existant.

In free agency im changing tact from the cowboys approach these past couple of years and want to do a bit of business early.

Tashaun Gipson-fs-browns
A play maker for our backend final arrives in the form of a texas native who has a prooven knack of making plays on the ball.Dont be fooled tho, gipson can also bring the wood when required.

Zachery Brown-lb-Titans
Think of a faster, more intelligent version of bruce carter, thats how i see brown.Hew could line up at any lb spot for us,has bags of pace and can make pays on the ball.Maybe not quiet as physical as ro mac but still willing to bring it.An exciting signing in my eyes and certainly 1 that would stengthen our team.I see him very much in the justin durant mold in that he offers us position flex and will be a player for us.

Trumaine Johnson-cb-rams
Very dependant on price here, after the carr fiasco i can see the fo using extreme caution when throwing big money at another corner.but if the money is right tj would make a nice number 2 corner.

There will be more free agency signings id imagine but these would be my big moves.signing gispon and tj opens up the draft for us,we can see how it falls and then plan accordingly for the secondary given byron jones position flex,as it stands entering the draft we could loook at it as gipson and wilcox at safety and scandy,tj and byron jones at corner,or go to the draft wanting a 3rd corner and plan for jones and gipson at safety.

Draft day
With a pick around 5th or 6th we have fielded alot of calls from other teams in the lead up to the draft,as we come on the clock all offers are still standing and the cowboys make a blockbuster-
dallas sends its 1st overall pick to denver and receive denvers 1st and 3rd and Bradley Roby-cb
and the picks=
1sr round-Connor Cook-qb
Ive been against taking a qb early in the draft but following the blockbuster trade and cook falling it just makes sence, let him sit and learn the system and hope we hit gold

2-Darian Thompson-safety
Wait didnt we sign gipson in free agency? And surely the acquistion of roby n the 1st round trade down along with the free agency move for trumaine johnson means our secondary is set?Well maybe, but thompson is a ball hawk,Thompson and gipson offer dallas true play making ability in the secondary for the 1st time in forever.
Plus who knows how candy will come back from his injury?True value selection here and a player that will make plays week in week out for us.

3a-Spencer Drango-ot
A right tackle competion in camp?3rd rounder vs 3rd rounder?drango vs green?Drango will win the job and green will become our swing tackle.

3b-dj white-cb
nifty corner who displays natural coverage skills, fluid hips and quick feet, good value pick here and given our secondary acquisitions already would operate initially as 4th corner but will develope into a fulltie starter should issues in the secondary arise

4-Jonathan williams-rb
Physical runner and leader, will spark an offence, injury though drops him here.make no bones about it though-a hysical 1 cut runner who will punish defendersand break tackles,

Rest of the draft as you please,
Went heavey in the scondary i no,probably maes it unrealistic, but surely its better to be proactive rather than reactive,we come away from it all with 2 very good corners in roby and tj to add to the already reliable scandy and with a 4th in the draft in dj white." very good roaming play making ball hawks at safety in thompson and gipson. All of which enables us to use bj as we please-probably more as a safety/corner hybrid shutting down tightends

I like most of the players mentioned but you have given us 2 FS's and if you include Byron Jones 3 guys that can play FS and still stuck with Wilcox at SS. Heck even Wilcox has mostly played FS. Lot's of FS's and no SS's.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Interesting choices in free agency that I like.

both thompson and gipson have enough about them to man the ss position,i would probably favour thompson there though.
At then end of the day it was more about finding play making safties.

like tm1119 said im going to rage if we take Connor Cook. And using cap space and premium picks on 4 secondary players is one too many . I would be happy if we went and got 3 solid to good secondary players( 1 safety and 2 CB's.) Can always find depth for the position with our 6th round, multiple 6th round comp picks, and UDFA's.

I actually would love to see the Cowboys shift a bit away from the age old SS and FS alignment and have two guys back there that can cover as this league continues to be pass happy.

Me three.

Don't like Cook at all.

I think we need to resign a lot of our own as a start, Ro McLain, Hardy, mo Claiborne, Dunbar. Let Carr walk along with Street.
Then, I want DT Wilkerson to make our DL ferocious. S Gipson to pair with Jones and mix in church and Wilcox if we HAVE to. Then I'd be tempted if we have the money to go after a WR like Benjamin or Jeffrey.
Then my draft would go as below except I'd use our second pick (and whatever other pick we have if we have to trade up) to target QB Wentz.
With this offseason we'd have playmakers everywhere. (Except on the coaching staff)
