Kim Gillespie says that in November 2010
the Cowboys’ all-time sack leader with the contract to matchhired him to “design a special order, one-of-a-kind bracelet for his
then-wife Taniqua.” (The couple were the subject of
this 2008 New York Times profile, following their decision to adopt a daughter following three failed pregnancies.) Gillespie’s suit says Ware “participated in the design process” and that the jeweler worked “for countless hours” to finish the job in time to make it the perfect Christmas gift.
Ware’s attorney says that’s not at all what happened.
“DeMarcus appears on this
Inside the Huddle show, where this guy advertises a lot,” says McCathern. “He volunteers to make a bracelet for DeMarcus, and he thinks he can get DeMarcus to publicize his business. DeMarcus says, ‘I don’t wear bracelets, but you can make it for my wife.’ So he does it and publishes photos all over his website.
Ultimately DeMarcus says he doesn’t want it, probably because he and his wife aren’t together anymore, and the guy says, ‘You have to pay for it.’ That’s the bottom line.”
