It's a brave new world for kickers. In the age of parity, kickers are becoming more important because there are more closer games that depend on a kicker who can deliver in the cluch. That's hard enough to do, can you imagine how it must shatter your concentration with Larry Allen or someone venting his frustration and trying to tear your head off? It's time to get a skilled professional, pay him well and RESPECT HIM.
It never ceases to amaze me how many college educated people think you can improve a kicker's results by bullying, badgering, cajoling and threatening him until he becomes a nervous puddle of fear, uncertainty and doubt that is prone to flinching and has deep circles around his eyes.
I think place kickers generally have a different mentality than typical football players. Some psych Ph. D. candidate needs to do a study on the different kinds of psyches of the people playing the different positions in football.
It's time to quit trying to save money on a cheap kicker and get someone you can depend on and pay them right and treat them right. I get the impression BP sees them as little wimps and despises them. What kind of example does that set for the tream? Big Bill or somebody up there needs to see the light.
