A little disappointed in the defense, too

I know its not going to be popular..... but that last drive of the game to seattle is when defense really needed to step up. at that point they had only played about 23 minutes in the game, with dallas offense having played 29..... so its not about being tired. that's when everything is on the line and you put your stamp on it. and for what ever reason, both defense and offense come up short....

It's hard to complain much when they only allowed 13 points; however, the were able to get it to 3rd long or 3rd and medium at least twice on that drive and were done in by pick plays both times, IIRC. It is just a simple pitch and catch on those picks plays.

I have noticed they tend to get completely dissected on about 1 or 2 drives per game. They've been forcing a lot more 3-and-outs than I can remember and they'd been doing a solid job or ending drives when they otherwise wouldn't have... but they do give away those 1-2 drives per game. And I don't mean just like a TD from midfield or a big play to score. I mean a 90-yard, 9-minute complete dissection of the defense.

Certain individuals signed to big money deals you are correct. Hardy is the only impact player on the defense right now. However as a unit the defense has been good enough to win with.

Sounds good but its not realistic. Sometimes they get a stop like last year in Seattle. Sometimes you have yesterday against Seattle. I just think people are tired of,the losing and looking for any way to vent but the D wasn't really the problem yesterday outside if the last drive. You hold teams to 13 you're going to win most of the games

I was a little disappointed as well but I just knew Wilson could get them in field goal range, those are the kind of games Seattle wins. It would've been nice if Seattle didn't eat so much time on that last drive though.

Seattle's O did their job in that last drive. Compare that to the Cowboys O for pretty much the entire fourth quarter. Not going to win many games cratering like that...

It's a relatively decent defense compared to what we have had in the past but our offense still has to do more.

This defensive scheme seems to flourish with a lead and give up points whenever you need a stop the most.

I really hope more than one guy can step up at a time. First game it was Claiborne who stepped up and shut down OBJ. Second game it was Lee who stepped up and made a bunch of plays (including a game-sealing INT). I remember RoMc having a huge game before disappearing. DLaw got his once. B. Jones had a solid game or two. Then they disappeared all the other games.

It's so painful to watch them open like the gates to paradise at the ends of games when it matters most. Such a great effort spoiled by an inability to close. Teams close on offense but just as many teams utilize the strength of their defenses to close too. We obviously don't have that defensive closing strength. Frustrating to say the least...

Yep. I remember far many more times when the defense gave up a big drive to end a half than it made a big play. Usually if we leave any more than 11 seconds on the clock to end a half, you can rest assured that the other team will point 3-7 points on the board.

13 points given up on consecutive weeks is enough for two wins-that is all.

Yes great point. One I failed to mention. We've been giving up the good just before the half too in games this year.... Just an incredibly bad predictable defensive trait.

Blocked FG and an int. This wasn't on the Defense.

Yep. The defense did well. Can't blame them for yesterday. If any of those field goals would have resulted in a TD instead, we would have won. Can't put that on the refs or the defense. Hardy was also a beast. He caused the INT and he put a lot of pressure on Wilson that somehow resulted in completions despite Wilson falling on his back while making the throw. A+ for Hardy, B+ for the defense as a whole. They did well enough to win. That's all that matters.

The defense was great yesterday. One more stop would have won the game, but I can't fault them too much for that. They didn't break. Our offense lost this one, playing against another good defense.

That SEA team was pretty good, too, though. They weren't chumps.

The half and the end of the game. Seems to be when our opponents get 90% of their points. We really need to put an emphasis on this. It's so crucial to games when you can have a 6-14 point swing to end a half and another 6-14 point swing to end a game.

Yeah, the defense "held" them to 13 points, but the Seattle offense really SUCKED.
