I’m a bit bored of talking about Parcells’ playcalling, the defense collapsing, etc. So here’s some good things for a Thursday.
1. For those who think Roy Williams is overrated, you need your head examined. How well is Roy playing? Compare his stats to some of the supposedly “better” safeties in the league.
Player……….Tackles/Game……Sacks……..Forced Fumbles……INT
Williams……….7.9………………2.5…………2…………………1
Dawkins……….4.3……………….2.5………....1…………………1
S. Taylor……….3.5……………….0…………...0…………………1
M. Brown……...6.6……………….0……………0………………...2
Polomalu………5.5……………….3……………0…………………1
Reed……………3.8………………0……………0…………………0
2. In the past 20 years, no Super Bowl champion has finished higher than 8th in points allowed per game. Currently, Dallas is 10th, just 0.5 behind 8th place.
3. In the past 10 years, only one team has won the Super Bowl and finished with less than 40 team sacks in the regular season (New England in ’01 had 38 sacks). That’s 2.5 sacks per game. Currently, Dallas is on pace to finish with 50 sacks this year. Furthermore, they are #1 in adjusted sack ratio according to the footballoutsiders.com Web site. Adjusted sack ratio takes into factors such as opponent and down/distance.
4. This I’m not sure about, but I believe the only team to win the Super Bowl and have a negative turnover margin was the St. Louis Rams in ’99. Currently, Dallas has a +2 turnover margin.
Below are some important stats that Dallas has over the other 3 NFC East teams:
1. Much better sacks earned and turnover margin rate than Washington. Washington is on pace for 27 sacks this year and is -6 in turnover margin. And according to Footballoutsiders.com, Dallas ranks 9th in special teams and Washington ranks 25th.
2. Much better scoring defense than the Giants who currently rank 24th in points allowed per game. The Giants are also on pace to only record 29 sacks this season.
3. Philadelphia is on pace to get 37 sacks this year. They are also 16th in points allowed per game. Furthermore, they are 32nd in special teams play according to footballoutsiders.com
