A look back at Mosher's final 2023 Draft consensus board

I still can’t believe Jalen Carter fell all the way down to the Eagles. Carolina would have been better of staying at 8 and not drafting Young. That was probably the worst draft trade in recent NFL history if you look at the talent that Carolina missed out on for 2023 and 2024 draft. Carolina’s owner is reason why Jerry thinks he is so smart.

Smith was considered a 2nd round prospect. He was an upside pick
Far too much "main stream media" is follow the leader though. Once the first few evaluations say a player is "whatever", the others just repeat the same message.

That's why several of the independent evaluators do so well & have loyal followers. They actually stay unbiased until they review the player.

Every draft about 60% of the first round picks turn out to be good or just okay - some bust. the rest turn out to be pro-bowl caliber down to solid starters. 1 or 2 will make the Hall of Fame.

There are some teams more stupid in the draft than Dallas has been despite the Cowboys' misses, which every team has.

I agree. There are a lot of players who did not go where the draft experts rated them and some who have not performed up to that level. What would interest me is where teams had them rated compared to where they go.

For example, it was reported that the Chiefs wanted to trade up with us from 31 to take Mazi at 26. So it seems like we're not the only team that had him rated that high.
And the reason the Chiefs were trying to trade up was likely to jump the Saints who took Bresee.

Bresee was the one I wanted because I thought he was more of a 3-tech, but many on here told me he wouldn't be any good. But, yeah, who knows, the Saints might have taken Mazi if we didn't.

Definitely but I wouldn't write off Young just yet. He played better the last half of the season. There's still hope at least, which is all I want as a Cowboys fan.

I’m sorry but Young is garbage . It’s set that franchise back yrs

There's some guys in there that I wouldn't write off yet. Anthony Richardson and Tyree Wilson look super rough, for example, and the B word is definitely being whispered about them. But Bryce Young? Shoot, give him another season. Michael Mayer? Got buried behind a phenom. Nolan Smith? Just hitting his stride. Etc.

Bill Parcells always said to give draft picks 3 years. IMO 4 or 5 wouldn't be crazy if you're trying to render judgement. Regardless, I think 2 seasons is too early to be making any proclamations about the 2023 draft class.

Except for Mazi. Mazi's freaking terrible.

Chiefs may have just known the Saints were looking at all the DTs similar to when the Bills jumped the Cowboys thinking they were wanting Dalton Kincaid because the Cowboys showed interest in all the TEs. Doesn't mean they were correct.

As of now, this draft is the perfect example of how they shoot themselves in the foot with their strategy.

They expect to have 2-3 immediate starters and force having to take certain positions. Whatever doesn’t happen in the first round becomes a must in the second.

That’s how you end up with Kelvin Joseph and Luke Schoonmaker with premium picks.
Yeah, the strategy of leaving massive holes on the team and filling it with rookies expected to start immediately is asinine.

PLEASE TELL one of the mods that lol I was talking to them about that the other day, it was like a forced pick we had to take Luke that year

it was a bad draft class is my number 1 takeaway.
and if you swing on a QB in R1 you better hit.

And people still get mad when we don't pick "Todd's Best Available" every year. SMH
I know, right?

I had major arguments w/ some draftniks on here about the DT class. You shoulda heard their insistence that guys who were rated higher by some draft guru were just so obviously better than the guys I liked. Which were Farmer and Alexander, BTW.

Mazi Smith?????

I like Mosher better than McCool or whatever. His co-host will just ramble on and on, mentally masturbating while Mosher just sits there giving him the evil eye.

McCool is either oblivious to this, and how to read people. Or get just doesn't give a damn. Either way, I stopped watching the show because of it.

In hindsight, would you take Kancey over Smith?

Marcus Mosher is a colossal idiot
Why?

Because he missed on some things?

I don't get why people do this when someones evaluation is wrong, especially if they're not willing to put their evaluation out there and risk being wrong.

I don't agree with his evaluation or board here. But I respect the fact he put it out there ultimately knowing some of it would turn out wrong.

That's the name of the game..

Zach Wolchuk on the Love of the Star podcast is worth a listen . I can’t get into the Flinstones Fred & Barney known as McCool and Mosher . And I’ll pass on Vochs Lombardi and going over his wardrobe selection with Broadus , i’m sorry but the meaningless chatter to a fan is like chalk on a chalkboard .

This is correct. Then people are afraid to steer away from the consensus picks. So the general consensus fans get entrenched on the consensus rankings.

By the end of it, many are just parroting each other.
