A&M gives Kevin Sumlin new deal
With the regular season winding down and the coaching job rumor mill about to hit full swing, Texas A&M did its best to ensure that its head coach won't be on the market.

The Aggies and coach Kevin Sumlin reached an agreement on a new six-year contract, the school announced Saturday, hours before the team's scheduled kickoff against No. 5 Missouri. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed and the contract is pending approval by the school's board of regents.

You think the Texans would be interested? Reunite him with Case Keenum or draft Manziel.

My dad lives in Houston & heard the Texans were interested. I cannot say if that was just sports radio chatter or he read it in the paper there but he told me that.

I do think Kubiak is done &'back on the market but as an OC.

I think that job would have appeal to a big name guy.

Every time I flip over to the Aggie game Johnny is running for his life & just throwing the ball away.

Curious parallel between the signing of Briles last week & they lay a huge national egg & now Sumlin's team looks to be doing the same.

Sumlin's boys have laid four eggs, not a single win against a ranked opponent this season.

Even the announcers said the A & M receivers were not running good routes & getting open. He had no help.

I do not think Manziel's game will translate well to the NFL right now. Stay in school boy.

various:
Sumlin was smart to get his money while he could.
That TAMU job is going to be a tough one.
Not sure if his deal means he stays long-term anymore than Briles deal does.
But both guys were smart to sign the deals when they did.

Manziel's game translates just fine to the modern NFL. The guy he most closely resembles is Russell Wilson and that's worked well.

TAMU lost a lot of talent last year. This year the defense was bad all year and the receiving options had dwindled to mostly just Mike Evans.
You lose another top 5 overall OT and Evans... Manziel would be insane not to come out.

And Sumlin would be insane not to consider other gigs.

Don't agree about Manziel. He'll get killed in the NFL.

Sumlin is recruiting REALLY well at A&M. He'd be insane to go anywhere else right now. He's recruiting lights-out on defense, and has two excellent up and coming quarterbacks in the fold (Kenny Hill and Kyle Allen), and one more possibly coming in (Kevin Murray's son Kyler). He's got some great young WRs (particularly Ricky Seals-Jones) to work with, as well as some fantastic running backs.

If you watched the last couple of games Manziel threw more to other receivers than he did to Evans. But it's easy to parrot talking heads who say he throws up jump-balls to Evans. Manziel has a tough decision - come out when he's maybe not a sure 1st rounder, or return and get another season of experience, with a better defense, and possibly work himself back up into the first round.

He needs to stay. I think just from listening to the radio talking heads & tv guys that he's leaving. They keep saying it's his last home game & stuff like that. It's going to be interesting to see what he does.

I like Sumlin. He's got them on the right track for big things.

Agree, that job is a great one, especially with Texas relatively down right now. So much recruiting talent so close to them and now they have the SEC to sell on top of everything else. They should be good for a long time.

I don't think his game is Russell Wilson's. His game actually reminds me a lot more of Jake Plummers at Arizona St. JMO.

Wilson is also 25 while Manziel is only 20 (for a few more days). Wilson's only about 10 lbs heavier right now, so I bet Manziel is that big in a couple more years.

Plus they both have the oversized hands. Manziels might even be a little bigger.

Manziel can put on some weight, but he just doesn't have a big frame. That weight won't sit as natural on him and could impact his performance. Wilson could probably put on 10 more pounds himself.
