I spoke with Steve Muench of Scouts Inc., about the NFC East teams and the upcoming NFL draft in this Blogger Blitz video. We talked about all four teams -- even the Commanders, who aren't picking until late in the second round. Steve likes tackle Lane Johnson for the Eagles at No. 4 (assuming Eric Fisher and Luke Joeckel are gone in the first three picks), figures on a cornerback for the Giants at No. 19 and expects that the Commanders will have good options at safety at No. 51.

But it's what Steve said about the Dallas Cowboys that really caught my attention. Steve agrees with the mock drafts that have the top six offensive linemen gone by the time Dallas picks, even though six offensive linemen haven't been picked in the first 17 picks since 1966, but there's a seventh offensive linemen Steve thinks would fit well and be a great pick for the Cowboys at No. 18 -- Syracuse's Justin Pugh, who played tackle in college but whose arms measured more like a guard's at the combine. Steve thinks Pugh could step in and play right away at right guard, and surely the Cowboys could use him there.

We will see in a couple of days but I suspect there will be more than a few surprises when it gets down to turning in the cards.

Taking a guy that has to switch positions just to play in the NFL at 18? Crazy

Sounds like he wouldn't fit the BPA qualification for the pick, but maybe teams have him rated higher than draft gurus do.

This guy is a draft media creation IMO.

He has minimal anchor strength and very short arms. Those characteristics don't normally get you drafted in the 2nd round.

Check him out at LT in the Senior Bowl. Projected 5th round pick Cornelius Washington looks like Reggie White when playing against Pugh. Washington repeatedly drives him straight back to the QB. I was having Doug Free flashbacks.

Brian Schwenke is a far superior player, IMO.

I would never dream of taking Pugh at 18.
But I do like him better than you xw....short arms and all.

I bet he's long gone before we pick at 47.

If for some reason they really do love this guy, please drop way down and pick him at 31 and pick up SFs second rounder while they're at it.

Brian Winters from Kent State needs to be our guy, he looks very good. Better then Pugh. JMO

And he can be had later.

He'll be off the board by the first few picks in the 2nd round at worst. He's going to be a real good pro. I think he'll sneak into the 1st round.

Brian Winters is a much better player. Winters is better than Kyle Long, who is projected to be drafted in the 2nd. Based on potential and pedigree alone.

Winters is just as a good an athlete, much more polished, and nastier. Winters also has better mirror and consistently finishes. Lower level of competition but Winters has more experience, production and consistently dominant.

This player more than any other, I can't understand his ranking.

I really can't see what Pugh has over the Cowboys own Kevin Kowalski who was a UDFA. Same arm length and very similar in other measureables. I have hope that Kowalski can develop, but I would not have drafted him in the 2nd round.

Here is a rough (+/-2) estimate of my rankings of OLinemen:

Eric Fisher
Lane Johnson
*Luke Joeckel
Jonathan Cooper
Chance Warmack
*Menelik Watson
Terron Armstead
Brian Schwenke
*D.J. Fluker
*Alvin Bailey
Brian Winters
Larry Warford
Khaled Holmes
Vinston Painter
David Quessenberry
*Travis Frederick
J.C. Tretter

Injured Players (not ranked)
Dallas Thomas
Barrett Jones
*Chris Faulk
Brennan Williams

Other:
*Justin Pugh
Kyle Long

*David Bakhtiari
Hugh Thornton
Earl Watford
Oday Aboushi
Reid Fragel
Xavier Nixon
Jordan Mills

You really like Schwenke better than Fluker? I don't know how one could possibly think that.

Agree. Winters has good feet for OG and much better anchor strength than Pugh or Long. Winters measured speed is slightly below Pugh's but Winters is a solid 320 compared to 307 for Pugh.

Pugh in the first round would really stink.

Pun intended.

And if anyone has watched even one game that Winters played, it is evident how nasty and physical he is. The guy played LT at Kent State, so you know he can pass protect but has a road graders demeanor. Winters plays to the whistle then gives a little bit more of vinegar at the end.

And he has great intangibles to boot. Winters is a worker and a winner. Another little known OL with similar work ethic and mental fortitude is Cornell's JC Tretter.

Versatility, plus Schwenke can play all three interior positions. Run block as well as pass block.

Fluker at best is a one trick pony/clydesdale--run blocking.

Fluker at 18 would be bad enough but Pugh at 18 would be enough to make me vomit
