You got the W today (congratulations on that, why couldn't Suisham kick like that when he was with the Boys, LOL), but you can't possibly be under any more illusions that your team is a legit contender...
If so, permit me to remind you that you've played a team that is now 0-8, and needed overtime to beat them... OK, this is the NFL, any given Sunday and all that... stuff happens... but you have also played a team that is now 1-7, and needed overtime to beat them... two very, very bad teams, and you struggle badly to beat both... I'm sure I don't need to dwell on what happened when you guys played a very GOOD team (cough, 52-7, cough)...
As for your quarterback of the future, do y'all still think he's "progressing nicely"?? If so, permit me to cite his stats from his last 3 ball games:
77 attempt, 45 completions (58.4 per cent) for 434 yards (144.7 yards per game, 5.6 yards per attempt), 62.4 quarterback rating... the Skins are averaging 133 yards per game passing over those last 3 games (Campbell has been sacked 5 times for -35 yards in those games)...
Gang, that's just PUTRID (and they actually include an extra overtime possession)... Campbell has been quite bad, surely none of you are gonna try to dispute that?? And perhaps some of you who have been so bitterly upset at the playcalling are starting to understand why Gibbs doesn't trust Campbell to win the game for him??
Part of the problem, IMO, is that (especially lately), Campbell hasn't really spread the ball around too much... he has his favorites, and he focuses on them a wee bit too much... maybe that's because he doesn't have that many good options to choose from, though...
I'll also note that on the final drive of regulation, that much-vaunted defense of yours yielded a 15 play, 64 yard drive, then in overtime promptly allowed a 39 yard completion into their territory... that drive ended when Cotchery flat dropped a thigh-high pass on 3rd down (and I fell off the sofa laughing when the announcer told us what a great job it was by the defense, Cotchery was open, the ball was in his hands, he wasn't hit, he just dropped it)... all of this at the hands of a rookie QB...
Now, to be fair and balanced, NICE game run blocking... the Jets were helpless against your running game...
So, you're 5-3, but once again, you can't be feeling good about the way your team is playing... and I still feel rather confident that at season's end, y'all will be sub-.500...
