I don't think it has anything to do with turnovers. I think it would be any situation later in the game down more than one score and when the running game is no longer an option.

That's it right there.

Any call for Romo isn't a slight on Dak. It's about experience and know-how right now, not any shortcoming of Dak long term.

I think Dallas is a year or two ahead of schedule so this year is a bonus. We found our QB and RB to run behind this awesome OL, and with hope of getting Jaylon and Tapper to plug into this defense next year; coupled with the draft and maybe a blue chip FA signing---all this should improve a so so defense. Next year could be the special year which will lead to more special years.

The only reason I have more optimism for this year is because everything seems to be lining up for Dallas, with the SB contenders having hard times and the Cowboys possibly getting HFA in the playoffs and then the SB down I-45 to Houston. So why not Dallas? :flagwave:

Whatever this is - and dang it if this ain't the funnest season in years - my mind can't help but wander forward, beyond whatever the next two months bring.

It's as if the Cowboys stumbled into a fortuneteller's lair, and found the one gypsy that knows her stuff. Everything we thought we knew to be true, isn't anymore. Time tables are turned upside down, the who's and what-fors have new names and meaning. Forks in the road appeared from nowhere.

For a good while now, Cowboy reality had been locked in 5th gear with the gas needle touching red and no last-chance-for-gas sign anywhere in site. Romo or bust. Duct tape, super glue, whatever it took to keep our Frankenstein together for one more run. Quarterback development be damned. No time for wishful football futility. Better luck trying to find the God Particle.

We knew the roster had taken some crafty turns under the guise of Stephen/Garrett and the ruse of Will McClay's band of draft thieves. We could see the quality of the plan front and center, but it still all hinged on Romo. You thought so. I thought so. Fans and haters alike. Even the Cowboys thought so, from the front office to coaches to players.

Such was football scripture etched in stone for a team once mismanaged and always in the spotlight. But suddenly, no more. How Dak and Romo works itself these the next several months is irrelevant to the grander picture. There's finally a future beyond.

Mood and prospects have no doubt changed, and I can easily imagine the extra spring in the personnel department's step these days with a major hurdle solved by sheer dumb luck. The elephant in the room is finally gone, as is the constant obsessing over it.

Building a defense is checkers compared to the chess of finding a franchise quarterback, especially in a sea of college chuck-and-duck spread offenses. Jared Goff looks almost undraftable now. The cast of misfits taken before Dallas 4th-round flier look like yesterday's stale donuts.

Whatever, that's no longer our problem. Dallas has the best QB corps in the NF-freaking-L.

So amidst 11-1 en route to whatever glory holds for us or not, I anxiously await the next phase, which is now WIDE open for McClay. Another smart draft, coupled with an equally smart and aggressive free agency look-see, and this team could be the standard for a good long while.

A defense to match this offense with youth and depth to boot. Can you imagine?

Players will want to come here this offseason. Brilliance on one side of the ball, and opportunity on the other. A present and a future. Substance beyond just the folksy star and spotlight. More enticing than ever since free agency began.

So bring on the playoffs. Dak or Romo, I don't care. Bend or break, let the defense be. Let 'er rip, tater chip. Win it all, or leave it out there trying.

There's really no bad ending because this is just the beginning.
Good read. I really enjoyed your write up

Nonsense.

It doesn't really have anything to do with the particular situation here either. Most teams only have one decent quarterback, so if their starter has a day like we saw from Hoyer or Palmer last year where they just don't have it, they are doomed because of the sudden death nature of the playoffs. If you have 2 QBs you trust, you have another option to try and save the season.
Joe Montana was benched, in his prime, healthy and with Super Bowl rings on his hand, in a playoff game. Why? Because he was off his game that day and more importantly, they had Steve Young on the roster. The Cardinals and Texans last year had no plan B.

Yeah but that was an indication that they were about to move on from Montana. If it's like 14-0 in the 4th and we have like 20 yards of offense, then maybe. But at this point you do have to consider the future as well.

Montana won two more Super Bowls with the 49ers after being benched that game. It had nothing to do with anything except that the 49ers had another option to go to and most teams did not and have to go down with the ship.

Win while you can, let's not miss this run.
No kidding, right? If they go 15-1 and don't win the SB why wouldn't you be pissed off? Are you kidding me? How many freakin years has it been? I had a kid, and then sent that kid off to college waiting, I will not be satisfied with a "good showing". Every year a different team wins this division.
