All I keep reading from writers and posters here are that all that matters is how the team does in December and January and that it will be judged solely on those months.

How then is it that people are going nuts over a preseason loss?

It's a great question to ask. It's one I've always tried to ponder myself while trying to make logic of some of the nonsense I see on message boards.

An example of this is when we play a game like the home opener against the Giants. We all would give reasons about why we think we should win or lose. Some less than confident/pessimistic cowboy fan or some Giants fan would say "remember, this team hasn't won a playoff game in 13 years" or point out Romo's record in December and the playoff. It could even be Jamie Dukes that'll say it. And I'm always thinking, *** does that have to do with this game being played right now in September?

This is exactly why the 2009 Cowboys are in a no-win situation before December hits.

If we win early, it's going to be, "Whatever, they win before December every year, so this is nothing different. The REAL questions will be answered after Thanksgiving!"

If we struggle early? Duck.

Is this somehow unfair? I don't think so.

I don't look for many things to be "fair" regarding the Cowboys and the media's/fans' treatment of them, nor do I care.

We're always talked about, good or bad, because a) we're a ratings bonanza and b) that's how Jerry likes it.

But no, it wouldn't be "fair" when you consider that we're not the only team in the league that underachieved.

Tampa Bay started 9-3 last year... then lost their last 4, including a home loss to Oakland in Week 17 that cost them a playoff spot. How much national media attention has gone into ripping the Bucs for their December collapse? Hardly any.

Even the Cowboys' collapses haven't been THAT bad.

The NFL Network had the 49ers broadcast team during the replayed game, and all I heard from these guys was how it was all Tony Romo's doing (rather undoing) during the months of December and January.

Fair enough.

I slightly disagree in that I think Dallas has to prove to everyone that they can get it done. Underachieving for a good number years will pretty much do that.

yep, its the 13 year empty drought of no playoff win.

like the 49ers said, the cowboys got rid of players like T O, Greg Ellis, Pacman, Tank etc to make atmosphere romo friendly. With Romo being here now over 4 years, and playing since midseason in 2006, no more excuses for Romo, he is a vet now.

I think what some people are pointing to, myself included, is the continual mistakes with penalties, stupid mistakes that kill drives or allow the opposing team to score. If you keep that up, those mistakes become habits. You have to correct them.

If you don't your showing the same ole thing like the cowboys players have the last 13 years.

Even if they come out of the gate slow, you can recover, has been done before, but its rough. Look at the cowboys in 93 or the eagles last year, everyone thought they were done, but the eagles made it to the championship game.

Wow dude. Let me spell it out for all the people on the "poor Cowboys" bandwagon. THAT TEAM FIELDED 13 PROBOWLERS! If you don't understand the how big of flop last season was then you need to lay off the crack pipe. If that were the Eagles, Commanders, or Giants some of you would would include it in your sig lines. But since it's the Cowboys it's all "so unfair". I'm a Cowboys fan to the core, but the whole homer parade (by some) is reaching ES levels. I'm a show me kinda guy. All the Cowboys have shown any of us is that they have consistently underachieved the past few seasons. There's no silver and blue colored glasses that you can possibly wear that will erase any of that.

And, yes, the collapses against the Ravens and Eagles were THAT bad.

Logical arguments rarely exist on internet message board forums. Sheesh. They rarely exist in reality.

I am glad you axed.

Preseason games mean nothing as far as a win or loss. It's a time to evaluate "talent." It's also a time to assess how far a team is along.

I could not care less if we go winless in the preseason.
The season is what counts (duh!)
