with him publicly stating that he wants to play in a 3-4 as an OLB because he "wants something new", Will teams throw alot of money on a guy that could end up being a huge bust there?. He's going to have to drop back in coverage and he's never played in a 3-4. I'm not saying he can't, but its a huge investment on someone who's never played that position before. To me it's like paying Ed Reed big money to be a corner.

What do you think the market will be for a guy like Peppers?

I think he'd be a DE in a 3-4 not an OLB. He's too big to play coverage.

Really? I thought DE's in a 3-4 were suppose to take on blockers.

he played college basketball, i would think he has pretty good mobility.

Basketball players are usually fairly good in coverage from all the years of playing on the court. I'd think he'd be much better than Ellis.

Although we aren't even looking at him so this is pointless.

I thought he'd play OLB.

He's played some coverage in Carolina and I have a hard time thinking he'd be any less effective in coverage than Greg Ellis is/was.

Peppers is phenomenal athlete and could easily handle the OLB. Check out his numbers from his draft. The only problem is how do you pay him and Ware. It would break the bank no doubt. Then what? Move Spencer inside with BJames. It would be one hell of a group of LBs.

I am not putting down your premise of JP in Dallas.
Still . . .

Zach Thomas, Ray Lewis, Julius Peppers . . . we really have to get away from Jerra's affinity for the "big-name" over the hill types who want to go elsewhere because they are not cutting it back home, either by play or by salary cap.

We don't need that. Let the other teams take on the high-salary player on the decendency.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I have a question about Julius Peppers.

Why are you all wasting time thinking he will ever be here?

Hostile I usually agree with what you say buttttttt he would ONLY play OLB in a 3-4. Here's the proof, he wants to play in a 3-4. Why would he want to be a DE when in the 3-4 their main job is to take on blockers. He wants to rush from a two point stance and drop back in coverage.

He's more of a DE in a 3-4, and I'd rather we re-sigh Canty for that, and continue to develop him. I like Canty alot. He just needs a year or two more and can break out. That projects better long-term than an aged veteran who will only be a one or two year stop-gap.

Nice thread though!

It's better than talking about TO all day.

IF we sign Peppaz... I might ooge myself.

You can cut TO then, cut Ellis and Wade would find a spot for him. He would probably move around a lot in Wade's scheme.

We can only dream :)

I live in Charlotte area and have watched him play too much. He has enough mobility to play 3-4 strong side LB, easily. Also I have seen him in person and his frame is very thin built and wirey, much like a basket ball player and not much like a 3-4 end.

By now you know the drill. Every name superstar wants to play here, for less money than he would accept anywhere else.

Peppers demands certainly fit the puzzle, and last year Matt Mosley had an article about him wanting to play here. Stuff like that pushes speculation over the top. This won't be the last thread about it. That won't end until he signs somewhere.

Given the fact Dallas will be trying to get Ware taken care of which is going to cost a lot I see no way Dallas is going to fork over almost as much for Pepper. I think Dallas has the talent to win they need to start playing like a team. You can have all the big names out there on a team with all the egos that go along with them but this is still a team game where coming together and playing as a team is the difference of winning and losing

If there was no salary cap, you better believe that our front 7 would probably look like this

OLB Ware
ILB Lewis
DE Ratliff
DT Haynesworth
DE Canty
ILB James
OLB Peppers

This thread stole my thunder..I was thinking he would be a perfect fit here in Dallas. Ware on one side Peppers on the other..Who would we lose or not ne able to sign..Maybe cut T.O. & Roy Williams (38). Bring in a serviceable WR who just make catches without the mouth. Defense can bring more pressure. Ok now we need Jerry to work this deal..
