A question about Newman and coaching

I've seen several times where Purcells has mentioned the positive impact that Aaron Glenn has had on Newman. Newman's had an incredible season so far so there must be some truth to it, but that brings up my question.

Why the heck has Dallas been paying a secondary coach if Glenn is the one teaching?

I'm being serious. Does Newman not respond well to coaching from the staff or does the staff have a hard time making their point?

I'm sure the secondary coach has helped Newman as well but players spend a lot more time with one another than coaches do with the players. A vet like Glenn has a lot to offer to younger players.

Maybe some people are just more susceptible to their peer's advice.

One thing I like about Parcells is he really believes in bringing in the vets to help the young guys. Marco and Larry for Rob & Torrin. Key & Terry for Crayton. Glenn for Newman. Bledsoe for Henson & Romo. And on.....

Parcells has said several times that Newman is a good kid who is very conscientious and diligent about trying to improve. I think it's just that Zimmer wasn't the best secondary coach, while Todd Bowles is an excellent one. Roy was asked by the Eagles media in his conference call what the difference was this year with the secondary, and the first name he said was "Todd Bowles".

I would bet that Glenn is more a complement to what Bowles has brought, as well as being more of a friend and confidant than a coach is able to be.

One thing people are forgetting is that Newman played all of last season injured...

and there is a huge difference between playing with Lance Frazier and Jaques Reeves versus Anthony Henry and Aaron Glenn. Plus we have, for the first time in recent memory, some form of pass rush.

Good cop-bad cop. As the coach, Bowles can chew on his butt to make a point, and Glenn can praise him and encourage him as a friend and teammate. Between the two of them, he gets it. Newman hasn't had a mentor since he's been here. Instead of learning from a pro-bowl corner, he had to try to be one on his own.

Newman in his post game show also mentions how Bowles emphasizes technique to compensate for his lack of size against big receivers...

Like someone mentioned earlier, Glenn complements what Bowles is prolly already teaching...

Also, I wouldn't say that Zim is a bad secondary coach. I think the fact that he was the DC didn't allow him to focus as much on the secondary as he should have. Attention to detail was divided...

I am sure Bowles has been helpful.

I would think that a different perspective would always help as well. BP has mentioned them having similar builds, so Glenn can give pointers in regards to technique.

Plus when a coach is off doing his X's and O's thing for an entire team, its sometimes easier for a player to ask another "Hey, how does this work again?"

I know I have been on both sides of that and it definitely helps.

If you knew football, you would KNOW that our DB's were the worst coached in the NFL...

Thats quite obvious with the praise coach Bowles has gotten and how our DB's have vastly improved their play & fundamentals...

That is why zimmy "Don't know greek" was canned as DB coach, he SUCKED...

Thats also why we could no longer trust zimmy to coach our scheme and its why Parcells HAD to make changes for the betterment of our TEAM!

Parcells did need someone to hold the clipboard this year anyway...

Some people would benefit from watching more football & posting less...

Then the world wouldn't know they don't know GREEK ether! :lmao2:

Actually you should be giving credit to Anthony Henry for coming over in free agency, as well as Aaron Glenn. Terrence Newman is a first rounder anyway. He is just playing well because the guy is talented. The coaches can coach a scheme, but the players have to have the talent to execute.

We stunk last year because Terrence Newman had no help, and we were decimated by injuries in the secondary. Pete Hunter was injured and just plain stunk. We had rookies playing out there on the right side in Bruce Thorton and Jacques Reeves.

Bowles isn't the main reason why our secondary is vastly improved. It's because Bill got Jerry to open up the wallet and sign some real talent to go along with Terrence Newman.

To get to your grand level of football knowledge, most posters on here would have to have a portion of their brain removed. :D

Nah, he's just stuck with his little Zimmer avatar, knowing our defense has vastly improved and that Zimmer is still the defensive coordinator while constantly having to convince himself that he is right for fear that he will look rather silly.

:laugh2:
