A question about the QB

another dak thread and cc wondering why he has to play god mod..

so the 3 others weren't enough , the one that clearly stated do you like or dislike dak and why wasn't enough of place to add too??

If they're trying to win a Superbowl, Dak is a good QB for that. If they're trying to become a dynasty again, Dak is not a good QB for that. I say that because his low arching fastballs will lead to drops. And those drops will end drives at times.

So he is our best hope to win one, but he's not our best hope at becoming a dynasty again. That's Dak.
Interesting observation, you think this was why the Cowboys WR's ked the league in drops? They've done that with and without him.

I think McC should take the same path he took in GB with Favre and his fastballs. Catch the ball or sit on the sideline and Favre would throw some smoke on a 10 yarder. I've seen his passes knock his receivers off their feet.

Lamb was the #2 dropper in the league last year and Cooper has led that category twice, once in OAK and once here. If the ball is catchable, I don't care how hot it's coming in, that's their job and I agree about drops being drive killers, they also don't sit well with the rest of the offense giving the divas of the league a shot at the spotlight and them blowing it.

I remember an interview with Mike Ditka where they remarked about how good his hands were and his response was hilarious. He said the defense told him if he dropped a pass, they'd see him at practice the next week and Ditka said they meant it. Back then, they could do that kind of stuff.

I am only interested in how perceptions about the QB have changed and what might have caused that. Mainly, because my perceptions were changed about him. I did not give him much of a chance to make it in the NFL.

He’s overpaid and overhyped. Not an Elite or prolific passer regardless if he throws for 6,000 yards.

Gets off to too many slow starts . But he’s enough to build around. And he has great leadership and comeback ability.

You gotta ride it out and hope we can put it all together and keep him healthy. And we must start hitting on defensive draft picks. That’s what’s missing.

And then hope we have the right coaching and culture without meddling from Daddy and Son. It’s a lot to ask for. But it should be at least interesting to watch. Thank goodness we are in worst division.

His Rookie season made his career. If we would have had 2017 first, Romo would have returned.

Timing is everything. He made the most of his opportunity or might have been the backup for several years.

Once Jethro made the decision to go with Dak he’s been all in.

Coach—- your intent was good here but another example why there must be a Pinned thread for Dak. It’s out of control from both extremes.

Yes, I know, another Dak Prescott thread but this one isn't really about him, it's about your perception of him as the DC QB.

Has your perception changed and why?

I am one of the few that watched him throughout his days at Miss St from being the starter as a junior, because I watch a lot of SEC, and his story connected with me as I had lost the person closest to me to the same monster.

He got on the Heisman watch because of his legs and the better defenses in the SEC took that away from him his senior season and forced him into more of a pocket QB. He did not look comfortable to me.

He got picked in the 4th, about where I thought he should go because accuracy on a consistent basis was not his game.

I was aware of how he got his HS and college starting jobs in the same manner but also intrigued as to why the starter couldn't take the job back. Little did I know this 4th rounder, longshot to not be on the PS to start the season, was to repeat what he did with Dallas as he did in HS and college.

I am not in either of the extreme camps regarding him, I am somewhere in the middle but I used to think just as Aikman did, you can't fix accuracy and he hasn't to the point of being Brady or Rodgers but he most definitely has improved in that area. He will still make those errant throws but what QB doesn't?

I am just interested to see how many are in that camp with me? Because that QB that started 2020 didn't even resemble that QB I watched at Miss St. Not even remotely.

I have seen this man work on his game and improve every season and I am intrigued as to where is his ceiling? How good can he be?

BTW, this isn't about how much he's being paid because I don't care about that. They had few options to signing him and this is just about how has your perception of him and his talent changed since he became a Cowboy.

I'm with you in a number of areas one of which, sadly, is also losing my mother to that insidious disease.

When I first saw him in college he reminded me of Tebow, but his passing skills have since gone way beyond anything Timmy could muster. I never understood Aikman's "you can't fix accuracy" comment because baseball pitchers do it all the time - fix the mechanics, the footwork, repetition - so why can't a guy throwing a football do the same thing? I think Troy was naturally-gifted in that area and finds it hard to teach someone else - think Larry Bird teaching someone to shoot. Many great players are not great coaches because they can't relate to guys less talented than them, so it's best Aikman got into TV.

I'm not on either extreme re: Dak as well. He's not Brady or Rodgers but some of the bums I see some compare him to tells me they either have no clue what they're watching, or they've developed personal animosity to the point of being blinded by it. That's another thing I don't get - the personal animosity. You'd think Dak showed up at some folks' houses and kicked their dog. What's his crime? Having the audacity to prove he can play? Wanting to get paid? I hate to think it could be for another reason that will not be discussed here, but I wouldn't rule it out either.

Dak is a very good QB. Can he continue to grow into an elite one? I don't know but he's going to get the opportunity. I hope he does because whoever plays QB for this team is going to have to overcome shortcomings in other areas, starting at the top and working on down.
