A Rookie QB couldn't lead us to a championship?

Interesting you used the word "Odds." Because that is an accurate statement based on the OP. On the other hand, Dak isn't a typical Rookie based on what we've seen thus far, so if anyone could defy those odds, my guess is it would be Dak...especially with the offense he would have around him...
Correct !!

That's a very small list and of course none have ever been the starting QB on a championship team.

Also noteworthy if you noticed these are all in Cap era except Elway and Montana I believe as we never saw Rookie QB's starting before which is more out of necessity.

Edit: Kosar was before Cap era as well . I've never even heard of Brock?

I found it almost comical when people thought he could be considered the QB of the future..... So im gonna try to be gray as possible.

Or maybe I should just straight say " he wont" and brace for the huge turd in my chest. If that turd comes in the form of a Super Bowl, then turd me up
I understand .

The point is a possibility if Romo went down that there is history with Rookie QB's starting on teams which make the playoffs and beyond who basically play the bulk of the season . Only one of these played less than 10 games. Most were 13 or more.

If Romo goes down early in the season (please don't let this happen). Then Dak will take over and we will have a better finishing record than last year. But watching him last night he did ok. Against a starting defense he held his own but saw him make some throws that maybe he shouldn't have. But saw some drops also by to the WR. Witten bailed him out on that TD pass. Not sure if I would go as far as saying he could take us to the playoffs but I would be rooting for him. Big step up from preseason to regular season.

Big step up from preseason to regular season.

Especially when teams starting getting tape on him and game planning for him.

If Romo goes down early we will do better than last year with Dak, but with this defense we are not winning anything. Just getting a year of experience under Dak's belt.

We have a top 5 QB and and people are wanting to start a rookie 4th round pick. Please for the love of god. This is why people think Cowboys fans are stupid.

Yep.

But I don't think Romo will play the majority of the season.

I dont think its unwarranted to speculate about Dak having to go in and replace Tony.
How frequently has Tony been injured the last to years in a short period of time.

To me the OP poses a question just about can Dak lead us to the play offs not should he replace a healthy Tony.

I agree mostly but not this we are not winning anything.

Knowing how bad our defense is , I doubt we can make the playoffs with Dak this year.

Lol, if this division is as bad as it was last year anything is possible...even making the playoffs and/or winning the division with Dak.

Dak could win the div, and take team to playoffs, the rest is unknown just like with Romo.
This rookie looks way better than most rookies, and he will have a very good OL, and vg RB's and the great dez and some others to
throw to.
Getting to the SB is hard for any qb or team, be they rookie or vet.
Dallas defense is a weak spot, for the team, or it seems so, sometimes they do good, but sometimes teams roll right thru them.

Most SB winners have the good defense, but the question is could that good defense shut down our offense??
In 2014 our defense did ok, but our offense didnt put up enough points to win.

Correct!

Most of all I found it interesting the QB's that were or became starting QB's in their Rookie season on playoff teams. Many of those did come in as a result of an injury .

The notion by some that a Rookie QB has no shot of making it is simply not true. And it looks like we have a QB that might be capable .

I know it's difficult for some fans to imagine we might can without Romo because of recent history.

Experience rules in NFL playoffs, Often the focus switches from being aggressive to not making mistakes.

The playoffs can be so evenly matched that the advantage goes to those who can control their emotions and not make that devastatng mistake.

Typically, if you are forced to start a rookie QB late in the season then you dont expect him to be the primary offensive target. He is in the role of a busdruver and his greatest responsibility is to protect the ball.

Obviously, if the QB is.not a strong contributor then the teams success was the result of an elite defense most likely combined with a superior running game..

The playoff strategy in this case is a low scoring game, allow the running game to grind down the opponent's time of possession and, above all, protect the ball whole forcing opponent turnovers.

Therein lies the crux of thr issue, why starting Dak would seriously decrease playoff success:

Yes, you can expect a successful running game. However, the other two critical components, positive turnover ratio and stingy defense, seem highly improbable for this season.

Without more help on the defensive side, It's not happening. We can hope for some kind of breakout from a player like Mayowa, but our defense is not ready yet.

Hardy not working out and Dlaw - McClain suspensions hurt us alot. I love that we want to build with young talent but still cant understand not signing a modestly prices proven vet bandaid.
