A Strategy to Screw the Cowboys

The Giants sign Canty to a one year contract and trade him to Miami for their 2nd and 5th draft choices. Canty signs an extension with Miami for a Good signing bonus Canty is a good value for Miami there and The Giants get a 5th rounder and get to screw Dallas for moving back one spot in the draft.

The Cowboys get the last pick in the first round who won't be as good as Canty.

by your well thought out reply I assume.. 1 of these????
1) You feel that Canty would not be worth it to Parcel
2) You would rather have the draft choice than Canty
3) It is not worth a 5th round draft pick to the Giants to move back one spot
4) Some Rule prevents This

Let me get this straight. In order to get at the Cowboys, the Giants surrender their first rounder to the Cowboys for Canty. In return they send Canty to the Dolphins for the Dolphins 2nd & 5th rounders; except the Dolphins don't have a 5th rounder this year so it would have to be either a 4th rounder in 08 or the Dolphins 5th in 09.

Anyway, so now the Cowboys have 3 first rounders which we can use to really upgrade our team. And the Giants end up with the 32nd pick in the draft. Except if I remember correctly, the Giants have to make an offer to Canty which he agrees too & which we can't match. If Giants trade Canty m immediately to the Dolphins, the full value of their new contract with Canty counts against their cap immediately and since the Cowboys chose/couldn't match it, I presume it's for a lot of money.

You spend too much time playing with Madden.

Let me explain it to you slow. If you accept the premise that Canty is worth more than the last choice in the first round AND the rules allow the the manuever, then the Giants and Dolphins could orchistrate a trade to their advantage.

Seems someone does not understand how restricted freee agency works

The giants cant just sign Canty, they sign him to an offer sheet, in return we have the option of matching. If they sign him a one year deal we would obviously match, unless we wanted the 1st rd pick instead.

None of this matters since Canty is not looking for a one year deal

Sounds well though out, too bad the thread starter didn't apply the same thought process.

By your reply you don't accept the premise that Canty is worth more.... That is a valuation we can disagree on. If you read the orignal post I stipulated a one year contract.

Yeah lets say he's worth more...but a one year contract? If I were Canty, I'd fire my agent for getting me only a 1 year deal...unless it was a 1 year deal worth about $20 mil. And if that were the case, why the hell would the Giants want that on their cap? Let's say it was a 1 year deal worth 10 mil... same thing, cap space hit. Or am I missing something?

Seems that someone can't carefully read a post.

I do know how free agency works. I just think it is possible to sign a one year deal with the understanding a trade would be coming. Our Salary cap situation may not lend itself to easily matching such an offer.

You say you understand FA then why did you post this nonsense?

No chance in hell Canty signs a 1 year deal 0%

Dolphins have no 5th to trade

We would match any 1 year deal given

Stupid! Why would Canty sign a 1 year deal while every free agent is getting huge multi-year deals? For your scenario to happen, there would have to be no signing bonus involved because as soon as the giants trade him they would incure a cap hit of the entire bonus. Why would Canty sign a 1 year deal with no signing bonus? You also seem to forget that Dallas can match any offer.

No, he's got a point...if it's a one year $15-20 million deal...we won't match. I would be doing this :lmao: :lmao2: at the Giants...and if they swing a trade to Miami for their 2nd and 5th round picks for Canty so that he can sign a even bigger deal...I'll definitely being doing this :lmao2: and this :lmao: and this :mchammer: at the Giants and Fins. And Canty would do the same all the way to the bank.

Canty would sign such a deal if and only if his agent concluded a better deal could be obtained from the Dolphins than from the Cowboys.

Think it through before you post.. I know you can do it!

Canty would sign such a deal if a deal was already worked out with the Dolphins. With our cap space a poison pill would not be that hard.

Actually I think you should have thought about it before you posted it. Not being rude but it is a little x-file conspiracyish...yes that is a new word.
