Canty would sign such a deal if and only if his agent concluded a better deal could be obtained from the Dolphins than from the Cowboys.

Think it through before you post.. I know you can do it!

You do understand that what you are proposing is against NFL rules correct? The Giants can not talk to the Dolphins about Canty while we have a tag on him. They would have to do it without knowing if Miami wanted him, unless you are saying they will knowingly violate league rules, and the NFL will not say anything

the least you can do is..

please clean the screen..

scrape the bowl..

re-fill the bowl...

..and then pass the pipe.

Then we'll talk about this trade you are promoting.

:laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1:

Thank you.

This is actually a pretty interesting premise. Not sure why everyone is poopoo'ing all over it.

The only real fly in the ointment is that the Giants would have to agree to terms with Canty, and that would likely only happen if there was a good amount of guaranteed money involved, which the Giants would have to keep on their books after the trade.

From earlier in the thread
"If you accept the premise that Canty is worth more than the last choice in the first round AND the rules allow the the manuever, then the Giants and Dolphins could orchistrate a trade to their advantage."

I put in that AND part for some reason. I didn't a realize there was rule against this..... I don't read the bargaining agreement and haven't seen this posted before

By your reply you don't accept the premise that Canty is worth more.... That is a valuation we can disagree on. If you read the orignal post I stipulated a one year contract.

you posted to much today go back to your usual trolling

The Giants sign Canty to a one year contract and trade him to Miami for their 2nd and 5th draft choices. Canty signs an extension with Miami for a Good signing bonus Canty is a good value for Miami there and The Giants get a 5th rounder and get to screw Dallas for moving back one spot in the draft.

The Cowboys get the last pick in the first round who won't be as good as Canty.

Giants would take a 3-5 million dollar hit on the salary cap for no incoming player.....

I want you to be a gm somewhere in this league cuz that would just be one less team to worry about.

If they could get Canty to agree to a contract without any guaranteed money, the Giants wouldn't have any cap hit whatsoever. That's not totally implausible if he's "in on it."

Canty would sign such a deal if a deal was already worked out with the Dolphins. With our cap space a poison pill would not be that hard.

In theory, it could work. The numbers, certainly, won't prevent it from happening.

Then again, in theory, signing Randy Moss, Samuel, and trading for the #1 pick using the 28th and the Barbarian works out too, because the numbers allow it.

Reality, though, is very different animal.

You're implaying that the Giants would move down 1 spot in the draft, lose, let's say just to give you the benefit of the doubt, 5 million dollars guranteed in salary cap space ( which is what's going to take at least for the Cowboys NOT to match ), just so they can " screw " the Cowboys.

For starters: Do the Giants have the cap space to sign Canty to an offer sheet that the Cowboys won't be able to, or would not like to, match ?

If the answer is " no ", then your argument is over.

DJ,

while the premises of the trade are unrealistic, rather than ridicule you, I will thank you for at least starting a thread that people can discuss. things are quite slow at the moment, so I welcome your post regardless of how unrealistic the trade might be...I give you credit for even dreaming it up...
