Yeah I know we didn't do what I thought we would when we signed Parcells on, but the years 2000-2002 were the real dark days. Hell, we had no direction, no players and were starting, gasp Chad Hutchinson at QB.

We were rarely on national tv except for the the guaranteed Sunday Night and US Thanksgiving games.

Now, since Parcells was here, the team is better, might have not accomplished much but we are better. Players are better, fans more enthusiastic and we are talked about again (not as a topic of derision either).

Parcells stopped the downward slide and got us back on the road to prominence (kind of like what he did to the Patriots in the 1990s).

He might not have won big with us, but he stopped the bleeding and turned us around.

For that I will always be grateful.

Adieu.

I'm disappointed he didn't finish with one last hurrah and a fifth year but as Ronald Reagan once said are you better off than you were four years ago?

The answer is yes.

Hey - it's the first time I can really remember this team being on the UP swing. I think Bill will always have a place in Cowboys lore, as the guy who turned it around. Before Jimmy came, I doubt we were ever as much of a laughing stock organization as we were in 2002 and prior. Bill has done a fantastic job, even if the end game wasn't what we planned all along.

It was a very good stint. Not great but he would have had to do a lot more in the tournament for it to be considered anything more than good. I will always appreciate Bill Parcells for his effort and what he has brought to Big D, but what I want to know is are we gonna stay with the 3-4!

Great post CanadianCowboysFan,I'm sorry it didn't
all come together for the team this year.Alot of people
don't agree here, but this team is alot closer than people
realize. If we make that field goal we play the Bears,if Owens
makes a few of all those dropped balls,we win a couple more
games.Bill, left this team in alot better shape than when he got
here.

Good post. I agree that we are better off now but I'm glad BP stepped down. I think we would have seen more of the same in 2007. Thanks Bill for bringing the Cowboys back to respectability.

Yeah, to say Parcells took over a multiple 6-10 teams doesn't do it justice. The only reason we weren't worse is because the East was the worst division in the NFL in that time and padded the Cowboys with a couple of extra wins a season. We had absolutely no young talent to build around around when Parcells came on board. There is taking over a bad team with a young core base of Will Smith, Charles Grant, Jamal Brown, Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister. Then there is taking over a bad team who's core young talent base consists of Chad Hutchinson, Troy Hambrick, Antonio Bryant, Ebeneezer Ekuban and Mario Edwards. I believe Flozell, Gurode and Roy are the only guys left standing off the original roster of 52 that Parcells inherited. Then ask yourself where all those people are today. Just about every one of them are out of the league. This franchise wasn't a weekend fixer-upper when Parcells came aboard. It was a complete and total re haul project from the ground up.

I think we could have accomplished so much more had it not been for 2003. 2003 ruined everything, IMO. We didn't undertake that complete overhaul that was absolutely necessary until two years too late.
