You know, it really amazes me how much a entire fanbase can switch perspectives in such a short amount of time.

6 weeks ago, when this team was 7-3 and moments away from beating a VERY good Denver team, this board was in a state I've never seen it. Everyone was talking about this team contending for a superbowl birth. We were saying how much BP had done for this franchise (yes, even those of you trying to tell us all now how you "told us so" and how BP has lost it). We were on top of the world, so to speak.

Then, Billy Cundiff misses a FG, Drew Bledsoe fumbles the ball inside the 10 a week later, Washington gives us our first (and only) big loss of the season, and just like that, we had made no progress in 3 years, BP needs to go, Bledsoe sucks, JJ sucks, all the coaches suck, we have no future, etc.

It's utterly ridiculous. We were 1 injury (Flozell Adams) away from, most likely, a playoff birth, maybe even a division title. Think about how many games we lost because Torrin Tucker is so god-awful?

We we lost 3 games because our FG kickers couldnt make chip shot, less than 35 yard FGs. We have even a decent kicker and bam, we're 12-4 and division champs.

The point is, we are not a terrible team, BP is not a terrible coach, and we are just fine for the future. Flozell Adams will return next year, and finding a decent kicker isnt that difficult. This is a good team who caught some bad breaks, had to break in a completely new defensive system, had no special teams help, and yet STILL won 9 games and was literally 4 plays away from winning 13.

At the start of this season, if I had had told you we would be 9-6 going into week 17 with a shot at a playoff birth, EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT. Few on this board predicted better than 9-7 or 10-6. Guess what? We did EXACTLY what most of you thought we would. You know what? We did have a chance to be so much better, and that's exactly why you cant sit there and say this team is in shambles, because had we won those 4 close games like we very easily could have, we would be 13-3, have the #1 seed in the NFC, and everyone here would be bowing to the demi-god known as BP. Instead, our players fail to execute late and we lose those games, all of a sudden we suck and have no chance in the future? No sir.

You just realized the fickleness of the Dallas Cowboys fans? Sure I have bitter taste in my mouth this morning (my day off for the observed New Year's holiday) but I'm already gearing up for the draft and next year. I'm going to assume Parcells will be back which is probably not a good idea. I do think his chances of coming back are greater than the chances that he retires.

Why is it not a good idea?

The 3 seasons before he got here: 15-33

The 3 seasons since: 25-23

Both our offense and defense are leaps and bounds better than when he got here

All games matter, that's why they're played. If you want to believe the team didn't try, that's your perogative, but I'm not buying it. We just got flat out embarassed.

Good post HeavyHitta.

I still think we can win it all in the 2006 season. We improve the OL and I know you wont like hearin it but adding Terell Owens and we can win #6.

I am really positive about this team next year. I think we are very close.

This season we beat some teams that woulda beat our 2004 team. We came so close to beating some of the best teams in the NFL and that sez alot.

THere will be some big changes comin this year and they will be good changes.

It's not that they didnt try, its a psycological mindset, while they know they need to play hard, its a lot harder to get up for a game with nothing on the line. You dont intend to not play as hard, it just happens as a result of having little to no motivation.

Had Washington lost, we would have blown away the Rams

It helps to have a sense of perspective. The 7-3 was built during the (comparatively) easy part of the schedule. The team was never really that good.

But not nearly as bad as the 2-4 finish either.

Having the second of the pair of games against all three divisional opponents on the road (at Philly, at the Giants, at the Commanders) really skewed our finish.

We're 9-7 no matter the order of the games, but when next year's schedule comes out I'd sure like to get 2 out of the 3 division road games in the first half of the season...ONCE.

Team was wore out. And I think that if the Skins had blown out the Eagles early our guys might have had the time to adjust and be more ready. But I do not think that would have helped since our O line forgot to show up for the game.

I think you misinterpreted. I mean, it's probably not a good idea for ME to assume that Coach will be back knowing his history. Should've been more clear. Sue me! :)

I guess we'll never know. I don't think a Washington loss would have made Pettiti or Tucker less of a movie theatre turnstile, but I suppose it's possible.

I believe it would have been a different game if Car or Wash would have lost. We had more total yds than they did also we held them to 101yds less than their season avg on offense.

Our D came to play the O did not.

And it is for the very same reason you mentioned above that we have switched perspectives. We had many chances to turn corner, close the deal, take next step and we didnt.

We also improved astronomically from a year ago, and we fielded our most competative team in a decade

We are not a terrible team. and yes we had unfortunate injuries, but so did other teams. All we(Cowboy fans) want is a strong commitment to our team from the owner to the front office to the coaches. We expect no less

Come on this is the most storied franchise in sports. We have high standards.

BP did a good job, but the problem is can he finish it. I don't think he signed up for that. He changed the culture here, set up a good Scouting dept, and drafted a good nucleus, now we need to put together a QB and offenseive line.

Jerry needs a good young team heading into 2009 and the new stadium. Need to sell those tickets.

Because it's not a good idea to give total autonomy of a franchise, to a guy that's year to year.

If Parcells want to come back as the head coach, fine. If he wants to come back and mortgage more of the future on 30-plus year old free agents, with very few key players under the age of 30 seeing any playing time on offense, then we're better off without him.

In a meaningless game last night, we should have thrown a young QB in there, but we knew that wouldn't happen. The head coach hasn't shown much regard for developing young players.

Sure it's possible. I'm convinved Tucker and Petitti would have allowed only three sacks instead of five.

For the Cowboys, getting excited about playing the Rams when they knew they were out of the playoffs would be like getting excited about buying your wife a nice gift for your ten-year anniversary after she presents you with divorce papers.
