Are the Cowboys resting Newman in order toheal the plantar fascia tear he has?

I know there was an important distinction being made that Newman does not have fasciitis but rather a tear of the plantar fascia but I haven't read anything that would tell me the importance of that distinction and so I'm speculating.

Do they expect that when the tear is healed that he will not have the pain and aggravation normally associated with plantar fasciitis? Will he be back to 100% or close to it right away?

There was also a statement made that Newman would have been better off with a complete tear of the plantar fascia and some quote by the Cowboys that perhaps playing would result in a complete tear (a supposed good thing)and yet they chose to rest him.

I'm trying to figure out what strategy the Cowboys are taking, what Newman will be like when he returns, and the liklihood that when he comes back he's back to stay.

I think they're possibly saving him for this game and the Patriots. Just speculation on my part really. Up to me I'd rest him this game too, but I don't fear Rex.

I'd like to have him for at least 1 game under his belt before we face Brady, which means he should at least start against St. Louis.

I really see no reason to play him this week. As long as we can score 14 points on offense, the defense should be fine.

I think that the Cowboys felt that he could play with a complete tear, it would be sore still, but not be as painful as a tear.

I just don't think Newman felt that was necessarily a good thing. It appears he would rather get it right and play to the best of his ability, rather than play with it torn and still have some soreness.

A couple of years ago he played with a bad knee and I don't think he wanted to go there again.

I'm no doctor

But it really doesn't make much sense that anything torn is better than something that heals in time and is no longer torn.

I mean is thing something like an appendix where you just rip it out? You don't need this thing to play CB in the NFL.

This reminds me eerily of the Ty Law misdiagnosis back in 2004 on what was later deemed a Lis Franc injury requiring season ending surgery.

there is alot of conficting information on whats best for partial tear of the fascia.

Here is what we have heard so far:
1) A complete tear would be better because it would be less painful.

my response: Doesnt that affect the stability of the foot ?...I mean the fascia (connective tissue) is there for a reason....so I never understood how that would be better.

2) This injury will be an injury Newmann has to deal with all season long.

my response: Does that suggest this injury will not heal on its own and will require surgery? Or does it suggest that since its the fascia (area of low blood perfusion) it takes a long time to heal properly? Again...no report has stated whether this tear can heal on its own or will require surgery. Rest has been suggested as the number one plan for Fasciities...but that is for inflammation but we are talking about a partial tear of a very strong and durable connective tissue membrane.

Someone posted in the "Tank" thread that Nate Jones has been released in order to make room for the "Tank". Is this true? If so, then the Cowboys have to believe that Newman is playing this week. I couldn't imagine Olegthorpe being our nickel corner.

The Cowboys will need T-New for the St. Louis game.

Honestly, I don't think we need him this week. This week is all going to be in Romo's hands. Chicago is likely to stop our running game, which means that Romo better be on his game. I would keep Newman out until New England if we can help it, but next week is St. Louis, so he should probably play then.

Yes it's true, but in 24 hours the Cowboys can resign Jones (or anyone else). It takes 24 hours for Tank to be eligible for the suspension reserve list, freeing up a roster spot.
