If we could work that out I'd be all for it. But it would have to be a sign and trade for Abraham and depending on the contract.

Would we isn't the issue. The Jets wouldn't so it doesn't matter.

WHy wouldn't they? Right now they stand to lose him outright so why not?

No thanks. Abraham wants too much, plus injury history+ age.

Abraham is still in his 20's, his contract won't be THAT big and his injuries were pretty much all related to his desire for a new contract.

If Parcells is going to be around next year, than I'd like to see him around.

They can franchise him -- they aren't losing him outright. No way, no how. They either sign him long-term, franchise him, or trade him for far more than Greg Ellis.

Yeah, 27 year old double digit sack artists tend to get paid rather well.

I wonder why that is?

If it were on ability alone, I'd make the trade. However, injury history and a somewhat questionable attitude would make me a bit wary of trading for Abraham. I think I'd rather stay with Ellis' guaranteed 8-9 sacks/year and wait for Ware to become our Abraham.

A Deja Vu thread. Maybe we can trade Ellis for Darren Howard now. I hear he's turned into a locker room cancer in New Orleans.

I want ZERO part of Abraham...I've watched his career in NY.

No thanks.

id say no, he just doesnt seem to make that many plays worthy of a big contract and 3 more sacks per year

I'm intrigued with a deal like this if there were a possibility of it happening......Interesting

A properly motivated Abraham is a terror on the football field. I am worried that a rich Abraham with a long-term contract and big signing bonus will be a chronic headache of gargantuan proportions.

He doesn't fit in as a 3-4 DE in the base defense and I question his willingness to play all the responsibilities of a 3-4 OLB.

He fits the 3-4 much better than he fits a 4-3. Playing in the 4-3 was a forced fit from Day 1. His natural weight is in the 245-250 range. He played outside linebacker in college in a 4-3. He runs a 4.41-4.45. It was like turning Lavar Arrington into a handon the ground DE and asking him grapple with OT's who out weigh him by 100 lbs. for 50 plays a game. Then they sit around and wonder why he's having injury problems at the end of the year?

Let's also be sure that we look at Abraham's performance in context. His #s looked pretty ordinary until his big day against the Raiders. Before that he had 6.5 sacks for the year. Nothing to sneeze at but it doesn't really paint him as the super disruptive force he's getting credit for being on this board. He's got .5 more than Ellis. And if you have to even think about who is better in the locker room you must not follow either team at all.

Agreed. I think it would be prudent for the Cowboys to find someone more like Mike Vrabel, a tough, team-oriented player with modest skills but extremely intelligent, to compliment Ware.

Fujita may be that guy if he can master the 3-4 defense and improve his pass defense.

When the rumors of Darren Howard were running around, I broke down pass rushers under 28 who averaged the most sacks per game played. Abraham finished 2nd only behind Dwight Freeney, and it was a close 2nd.

Watch the games. He's dominant. Charles Haley didn't put up phenomenal sack numbers while he was here, it doesn't mean he wasn't a huge disruptive force on every down. (and Haley was more of a locker room and personality problem than Abraham could ever dream of).

Seeing how we're still struggling to get consistent pressure on QB's I'd do it in a minute and wouldn't look back. I like Greg Ellis a lot but I'm sick and tired of watching QB's lounge around behind their line waitng for someone to get open. Abraham opposite Ware would cause major problems for opposing offenses.
