According to my numbers - Dallas might need 3 DL starters next year

If Kiffen went into the LB room before the draft, and there were 5 lbs in the room, then the LBs were most likely Lee, Carter, McSurdy, Durant, and Sims.

Albright, Wilber, and Sheffield (who?) were in the DL room.

They're probably thinking Brent, Crawford, Lisemore, Ware, and Spencer going forward, knowing they'll have to replace Rat and Hatcher in the offseason. That's doable with one FA and one high draft pick.

They must not have thought much of the ability of Demontre Moore to upgrade the unit, overall.

If Hatcher is playing well I'd support re-signing him because he hasn't taken much of a beating because he was a backup until age 29. If he is playing well I'd try to give him a reasonable extension over 2 years, maybe $7M with a $2M bonus. Given the recent market for DL I think that'd be a reasonable deal and he has really, really outplayed his last contract. I don't want to give a crazy big deal like Jerry gave Rat back in 2011 :bang2: but I also think he is a player who may have a few years left in his tank.

perhaps chicago has a better dl?
if marinelli thought price was useless why would he still be on the roster?

cap situation in 2014 looks bad now but gets much better once you remove miles austin, doug free and other very likely cuts. plus of course we'll do more restructures again as we have yearly.

we also get a draft class next year.

The big problem was that Price wasn't well mentally because of the death of h is sister.

He should be fully recovered from his surgery now 2 years later and hopefully has had necessary treatment and counseling for his mental health issues.

I eagerly look forward to seeing what he can do now that he is back in shape and committed to football again.

I agree with you completely with Hatcher. I just expect to lose him because he seems like he's gearing up for a FA run. But I'd like to see him stick around if we can make it work.

Hatcher is 30, Spencer is 29, IMO I think both of them being on the last year of a contract is good motivation, which is good for the team.

IDK, why is Dalton Williams on the roster?

By cutting Austin and Free, that is going to carry dead money next year. I haven't seen yearly restructures like this, so I have no idea what you are talking about.

Seems to be the answer every year. Another draft, wait another draft.

if you haven't seen yearly restructures you've had your eyes closed which explains the confusion. we've done more than 5 each of the past couple seasons.

the cowboys cap situation sucks but they push off the suck every year. probably will til romo retires.

dalton williams is here to win a 3rd QB job and lands on the practice squad if we can get him there.

brian price is here to make the rotation. they certainly aren't trying to get him to the practice squad. he may or may not make it but marinelli was the guy who vetoed floyd apparently. he must like the DL.

a week ago rod was a genius and the most wanted dl coach in football now because he likes this group he is an idiot....

Hatcher has a family here and will stay if he can imho. Kids in school and et al.

NO would be of serious appeal as he is from LA. But I don't know that he is a guy who'd move to the north east for instance.

I do know they do a few restructures each year, this year though, they restructured everyone they could.
I think you are missing the point of what I am saying about Price. Brian Price, is nothing special, at most he is a rotation player. He doesn't magically become good, because the Cowboys sign him.
I think the jury is out on Rod, he had Kiffin in Tampa, didn't do a whole lot with Detroit, and had Lovie in Chicago. When people try to say, ya we just got this awesome position coach we are going to be soo much better, I think about Hudson Houck a couple years ago, and how did that work out? And I do not want to hear, but he made Tyron soo much better.

I think the team believes there's a near certainty that they have all 4 starters for 2014 already on the team, but I'm sure they'll look for upgrades if they're available.

3 things I keep in mind:

--every team is imperfect; you do the best with what you have
--players surprise you; we have a new scheme by a coach wise enough to adapt a bit to what we have
--at this point, we don't know who will be on our roster when the season starts

If I put this on a scale...how much would it weigh?

Brian Price was a 14 game starter in 2011 and looked very good when reviewing the 2011 season on the All-22 from nfl.com. He was cut due to emotional issues.

I agree with the general premise that we might need 3 new starters next year, that being said, some of those players could certainly be on the roster already.
