According to PFF, Kenneth Murray was one of the best defenders on the field vs Vikings

It's one game and for the most part I didn't think Murray was as terrible as he usually is. But the thing about Murray is he will flash quickness and athleticism on 1 play then do something mind-bobbling on the next. At this point I think Murray just has a reputation and he gets more scrutiny than everyone else. It is earned but not always deserved.

The Vikings had only 77 yards rushing on the night so the run defense was not that bad. True, the Viking average only 102 yd/game normally but overall I though the run defense was pretty good.
That's QW doing his job. Clark had a nice TFL on one play as well. Our secondary got torched.

What do you mean? CL may or may not use PFF. But he at least talks about things objectively. I know he's a fan because he has been around for years and years.

Sometimes, players suck no matter what PFF says. And sometimes, players are good when PFF rates them badly.

It's a dumb source that I passively consider.. if I even consider it at all.

Their grades literally mean nothing though. It's not a legit grade on a players' performance.
People use stats to further their agenda. That’s what I meant.

This is why, ALWAYS trust your eyeballs when evaluating a player in real
time. PFF is only as reliable as the humans grading and evaluating. Take it with a shaker of salt
You would get thrown under the bus and labeled a hater if you made this claim about a certain player on this team.

Let me break this down for you young man!! Lol jk

The one play where they ran it in easily and he was NOWHERE near the runner trumped all of this so called good stuff he did!!!!

Wilson everyone was calling for him to play, but I really didn't see him that much didn't pay attention to him, but I guess we see why he isn't playing much!

Liafau, the guy is a loose cannon!!!!!! He'll bring the physical play we want Murray to have, but all he's doing is BLOWING blocks up, no knack for actually trying to find the ball carrier. I saw him on several occasions be shot out of a cannon and that was it!
Great description of Liafau. He has no recognition skills and also lets players bounce off him. He’s a head hunter.
That McCarthy stroll into end zone is as Liafau responsibility

I'm serious he makes the initial thud but after that he's then left trying to find the ball

Liufau should be on special teams where he can just run around and not have to think or diagnose. Him and Murray suck at LB.

And Mingo was our best offensive player.

Top 5 Offensive @PFF Scores vs. Vikings (snap total in brackets)

Jonathan Mingo- 90.0 (7)
Tyler Smith- 83.4 (65)
CeeDee Lamb- 80.7 (60)
Cooper Beebe- 76.2 (70)
KaVontae Turpin- 76.2 (14)

Bottom 5 Offensive PFF scores
TJ Bass- 30.9 (7)
Brevyn Spann-Ford- 31.3 (21)
Hakeem Adeniji- 36.9 (14)
Hunter Luepke- 50.8 (15)
Malik Davis- 56.0 (37)

Mingo had a nice 25 yard catch on his one target and is solid in the running game. That needs to be his role. Let him maul and occasionally get a target.

But this always depends on how qualified the eyeballs are. There is no chance in hell that everyone on this board is an expert on what a LB is supposed to be doing on every play.

Adeniji was bad. Looks a lot more comfortable at guard or right tackle than he did at left tackle.

Very true

But QWill and Clark are not always in there. Thomas and Osa or the weaker pair when they are inserted. It showed badly against Detroit.

Top 5 Defensive @PFF Scores vs. Vikings (snap total in brackets)

Quinnen Williams- 80.7 (31)
Jadeveon Clowney- 80.2 (28)
Kenneth Murray- 76.0 (22)
DeMarvion Overshown- 69.3 (51)

Caelen Carson- 46.5 (17)
Malik Hooker- 46.8 (49)

Marist Liufau- 48.2 (16)

PFF sucks almost as much as Kenneth Murray.

Not really. The interior defense isn't the problem. Look at the run-game stats before/after the trade. Gibbs only rushed for 43 yards against us. He'd of had 143 had we played them before the bye week.

When we do get ran on, it's typically around the outside these days where teams can exploit our 2nd and 3rd levels.

Also, Osa's one of the best pass rush DTs in the NFL. We have one of the deepest interior D groups in the NFL period.

But... LB, S, and CB play has been an embarrassment, and I think this is what we'll address in the offseason and draft.
