Dude is huge and strong as a bull. He'll make us forget Canty for half the price.

That'd be nice as well.

Curious why he's become such a fatty though. Has anyone heard anything about that?

I haven't heard that. Maybe he's hanging out with Bob. :laugh2:

Just as long as they don't drug test him we'll be ok. :D

D-line rotation. Will Spears play some NT to spell Rat? Will Igor play some NT also? I think Dixon,Bowen and Hatcher have to step up and provide depth. I don't want Rat tearing down like he did last year.

This team will hinge upon how well Marion Barber can return to his role as the finisher. We will need his steady pounding of other teams into submission to give this team a sense of identity.

I just cant pick one player,..it takes 11 guys to win.we need consistency to be our best"player".

In that sense, the play of the offensive line will determine if we can develop and identity as a running team this year.

Defense ~ Olshansky [spelling?], but I also like the Sensenbaugh addition. Both if live up to expectation can make the difference.

Offense ~ not so much the return of a healthy Barber & Jones, but just the running attack witha ll 3 RB's in general. Yes, easy to say Austin. But if the running game gets going so will the passing game. I don't think this time it will work the passing game 1st. Unless the WR's step up and show that the loss of TO is nothing to worry about.

Losing Canty, Ellis getting older and more injury prone. Other than that, I think we're OK. ;)
I think Igor will be as good as Canty was if not better. losing Ellis hurts but hopefully Spencer will play like a 1st round pick this season. also Brandon Williams imo will do well when he gets his chance to the rush the qb out of the Nickel and Dime sets.

Its not one player but the combo of Scandrick and Jenkins.

If they are bigtime players than we could be deadly.

Romo. Defensively = Demarcus Ware. Can shatter the opposing QB at any gievn snap.

I'd like to see Spears at the NT. The more I see people write about positive aspects of this team, the more I think we're actually better off without some of these players like T.O. and Ellis.

It comes down to what someone was saying last night. Parcells taught Jerry a lot as far as how to keep the wheels of this team rolling in the future. And I just think it was good to cut our losses with T.O. and even Ellis, though I've still been too busy to figure out why he's gone. Forgive me, academics has been keeping this old man busy.

Also, as Hostile was saying, don't discount Marion Barber. I'm not. I just think the combination of Felix, Barber and Choice is going to be one to be reckoned with. And as far as the offensive line goes, I think that's one thing that will keep it solid. Jerry learned a lot from those years with Emmitt running the ball too. If you have solid backs, it makes for a better offense. Period.

I'm really excited about this year. And Roy Williams has always been a favorite player of mine. I can't wait to watch this team, without T.O. and the side shows.

It should be one of the most solid, well-rounded teams we've had if all goes well.

Just my two pennies. Thanks for the replies. They were all interesting and lent me some positive energy, even if I'm not up to speed on what's actually going on with the team all the time.

Gerald sensabaugh.

if you can trust your corners(we can imo) and you have good safety's(Hamlin will return to 2007 form imo because of better health and not having to worry about rookie corners making mistakes and worrying about the ss screwing up) you can bring the heat and have championship calibur defenses like Baltimore,Pittsburg,Philly and New England.

I like your thinking.
Wade will be able to disguise the rush better as well. With our safeties being able to cover we can play Hamlin in cover 1 and lock up Sensabaugh on TE's.

or

Blitz him as a changeup. I can see our pre-snap reads being difficult for opposing QB's.

This off-season my head has been buried in books rather than news articles or sports sections. It's OK, though. I only have 2 more years of it till I'm back to "normal". :D

Which player (if he plays well) will make the team a "real" threat is the question. I might have tried to answer this question last year but now I'm unconvinced it has an answer. What caused the Cowboys to perform so poorly at times last year is a much better question and no single player was the problem. If I'm right, then no single player can be the answer. There is a pretty long laundry list of things the Cowboys have to do better as a team.

1. Special Teams - coaching and less prima donna attitude from these players
2. Offensive line - better depth, fewer injuries - teams will start out defending against the run first, then rush Romo. This group needs to perform well as a unit which they did not do at times last season.
3. Defense - rushed the passer well last season but broke down in other areas so again this group needs to perform better/more consistently as a unit

We had injury problems last season and the odds say we will have them again this season. I remain concerned about our depth, particularly at OT and WR. No single player is going answer all of these questions and better play by Romo won't solve them either.

My hope is the "addition by subtraction" thing with TO actually turns into something meaningful and we score more points this season. If this works then the OL and several skill position players can make up for the production we lost from TO. We'll see.
