I read the previous post about the person who thinks the Cowboys are going to be 3-13, which they had no legitimate statistical value or even a legitimate thought behind the Cowboys winning only 3 games. So this is my breakdown from someone who played football for 17 years and 4 years of college.

First, (I know we are talking about the Cowboys and they like to play down to competition) there are some 95% chances of winning "gimmie games". I say 95% because you can truly never predict how well a team will do based on the prior year, see 2013 Kansas City Chiefs. The following games I consider "gimmie games" for the Cowboys:

Over the last 3 weeks I have the Cowboys going 2-1 for a final record of 11-5. I know everyone might be thinking "no way", but the Cowboys schedule is not very difficult.
You are not going to read that preseason prediction very many places.

There is a 99.985% chance his prediction based on his "probabilities" are wrong.

He may have legitimate thought, but legitmate statistics are laughable. But he got the page hit

On paper, we could be a 10-6 team, but that's going without the injury bug. While we have assembled a solid offense we still lack depth at key positions; the defense is held together with band aids. We need a healthy dose of luck.

you know this isn't unreasonable. the defense is a question mark
all teams that make it into the playoffs experience some percentage of luck
no argument here

I'm a Cowboys fan...I've fallen, and I can't get up!

You go waving monkey, I'm on board with you.

I'm with you too CCBoy
I just see a lot of good things these last four years
jerry is bettin the farm on this organization his revamped
it's simply not the same ole same-o
I diffidently see what for the skepticism
I think it's over done to turn skepticism into constant negativity

that's why I became a pain in the arse around here.
if some would show a reasonable criticism it would sure change the tone here.

I have said all along that with health, this is a playoff team and anything can happen once you get in...they won't be SB favorites or anything close to that as the season begins, but with health, this team could do well....I am also not as enamored with the schedule as many say...sure there are some tough teams on it (based on 2013), but there are also some easier ones....10-6 is reasonable to me and a division crown if they stay healthy

until they prove it on the field all your sunshine pumping means nothing. This team has no cred; has no benefit of the doubt at all.

This BS about get in and anything can happen is the ultimate Pollyanna crap. No one with a brain thinks this team can be anything but one and done if it gets in.

my God, I am SHOCKED that you posted something negative, it's SO unlike you!!! honestly, you need to be careful, you kinda just gave a chance of the team getting in to the playoffs....you might want to recant your statement and quick!

Here's how I define "happy fan" a fan that is[positivity bias),someone who can only see the positive and no negative.
I'll let anyone that want's to point out the negative please go ahead. [There are plenty] There is positive also.
It's taking a long time to correct things but their being corrected each off season. [offensive line]
All you negative Nancy's have no cred either. it simply is not all negative ,it just isn't.
If you can't see the improvement [slow yes] your not allowing yourself to see.
We'll be in the play offs maybe not this year bt soon after

I almost made it through that whole piece but I stopped reading with the Colts game and this person used PFF to claim Indianapolis lost its best defender in Kavell Conner.

some one auto corrected my post 'happy fan does not describe my intention "sonshine pumper" does

Not a terrible try, but history and especially trends do not change until they do on the field.
This team has (had) opportunities to break the trends over the last 3 years and make a run
into the playoffs. The team could not get it done for whatever reason. You can blame Romo,
defense, coaches, management, waterboys, The Death Star...whatever. Bottom line,
whatever the reason...they couldn't get over the hump. Good teams find a way to win
meaningful games and get over the hump. When Green Bay and Baltimore won SB's
they had their problems but found a way to overcome. Until the Boys get that winning
mojo back they had all those years ago, it's going to be more of the same. It's a team sport
and the team has to find a way to win in critical moments...You can always find someone or
something to blame for failure until you don't fail anymore...IMVHO!!!

I agree on the schedule, to me though, it's not the teams, it's the layout. Even though we have 5 of the last 7 game are away, they are kind of broken up, but still a lot of travel time.

Arizona at home, then short week if you include flying time to London for the Jaguars game. Then a bye, but coming off a long trip. Then at Giants at NIGHT, 3 days then the Eagles. These are 2 key games, and very tough on this sheduling.
But then instead of the usual 10 days off, it's 1 week, at Chicago, then the 10 days, at Eagles. Now this could actually be good. Except 2 games against divisions opponents in 4 days, then 1 week, then travel.
Then home against Colts, then at Commanders.

Now all that seems tough, but is it as tough as it really seems. That's hard to say, guess it depends on how one looks at it, and eveyone looks at it differently.

But the key still is, winning the home games up front, at least 4 of them, no matter the opponent. Getting 2 road wins against Titans and Rams. Be 6-3 going into that stretch.
If they are, then it's not unreasonable to think they couldn't win 4 of the last 7. then get to 10-6, which should be good enough to win the division.
