It pays to be fast in the NFL, and Adidas confirmed that Tuesday by offering $1 million to any prospect who can break the 40-yard-dash record at the NFL Scouting Combine.

According to Adidas' website, the one catch involved is that prospects must wear Adidas-branded footwear while running the 40-yard dash in order to be eligible for the cash prize.
Per NFL.com, current Arizona Cardinals and former Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson holds the record with a time of 4.24 seconds, which he set in 2008 when he was fresh out of East Carolina.

Jakeem Grant would be my guess for closest to that, if he's invited that is!

He supposedly ran a 4.25 in HS, but yes I'm sure it was hand timed, etc. But he's got muscle now so who knows!

I guess Alexander Wright didn't run the 4.14 in the combine...

I don't think there's any prospects here that will break that - hitting sub 4.3 alone may not happen this year.

CJ's 40 time has held up pretty well.
As fast as the times are getting, I'm kind of surprised.

That's Bill Gates money.

Reminds me of an article I read from Neil deGrasse Tyson. You know how when you're walking down the street and see currency on the ground, the amount is what makes you decide whether it's worth picking up or not? Like, you're willing to pick up a quarter, but not a nickel or penny.

Well, based on the average Americans income, relative to Bill Gates worth, if we are willing to bend down and pick up a quarter but nothing less, then comparatively, Bill Gates wouldn't be willing to bend down and pick up anything less than $45,000.

The times were all hand-held back then. Chris Johnson's "record" is the fastest since they went to a hand start and electronic finish. Guys like Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson also ran faster than 4.24 at the combine when the times were hand-held.
