4-2...spin it anyway you want, buts its a disappointment with this team

Offensive MVP...this was a tough decision for me...Romo has good overall numbers but clearly hasnt been the same the last 3 games as the first three, and he's already fumbled 6 times (and easily could have 8 if not for two bonuses from the refs last week) and thrown 5 picks (he's also had several easy picks dropped or broken up by our receivers)...Owens has been taken away for 3 or 4 games now..Witten has been his usual consistent self..after the GB game I would have said the OL as a group, but they've stunk 2 of the past 3 weeks..the next thought would be Barber, but he has averaged just 4.0yds per carry overall, incl 2.6, 3.7 and 3.3 the last 3 games...its also went mostly untalked about, but he already has fumbled 4 times this yr..thats a pace for around 10, which is not good. So I'm going with Felix Jones...he's made three of the biggest plays of the season (ko return vs Philly, 60 yd TD vs GB, 4th & 4 down TD run vs Cinci)...the game he wasnt used at all we lost (Wash) and he has nearly broken numerous other runs for long gains...he's averaging an unheard of 8.9yds per attempt and has probably another 50 yds or so on 2 holding calls...when he returns, he needs to be a bigger focal point of the offense

Defensive MVP...to me there were only two guys to even consider, Ware and Ratliff...I'm going with Ware, because his numbers are good and he's doing it despite constant double and triple teams, and having backs/TE's chip him constantly

Most improved offensive player- Miles Austin

Most improved defensive player- Marcus Spears...he's been excellent vs the run, and is getting in the backfield quite a bit as well...last week he had two huge hits on Warner, one that forced the gimmee int for Hamlin..they should start leaving him in on passing downs more, because Hatcher and Bowen are doing basically nothing when they come in

Most disappointing offensive player- you could probably pick any numbers of guys..I did think Deon Anderson would be better than what he's shown though

Most disappointing defensive player- tie between Ken Hamlin, who got a massive contract and has done basically nothing on the field, and Adam Jones, who turned out to be no better than average (and IMO mediocre) on the field and proved to still be an idiot off of it

Best special teams player- Folk...I thought about giving it to Felix, but Folk is as good a placekicker as there is, especially when it comes to FG's...still needs to improve the kickoffs some

Worst special teams player- Adam Jones...he was just horrendous on punt returns, which was the one thing I thought he'd be really, really good at...averaged a paltry 5.0 yds per return

Best play of the season- Jones' 60 yd TD run at GB...totally changed the game

Worst play of the season- too many to pick just one...the 3rd and 18 screen pass (that Canty actually defelected) vs Arizona would be up there though

Best draft pick- Felix Jones without question

Worst draft pick- Walden for obvious reasons

Best coaching job- first 3 games it was Houck without a doubt...now...nobody

Worst coaching job- Wade/Stewart...no excuse for the defense to be this average to mediocre...

Nice post David.

I agree with much of that.

There's a fine line between praise and dissapointment.

I think that lies with a single loss as opposed to the two losses.

Nice post. My choices would be different.

Offensive MVP...Terrell Owens. Even when he is not catching passes he is downfield blocking to open guys up.

Defensive MVP...Agree on Ware and Ratliff and going with Ware.

Most Improved Offensive Player...Felix Jones over Julius Jones. I know that is cheating a bit, but he is the change.

Most Improved Defensive Player...Zach Thomas over Akin Ayodele. Same thinking, improvement over last year.

Most Disappointing Offensive Player...Flozell Adams. He may be dinged up but he's playing like he is shot. Travis Laboy looked like a Hall of Famer.

Most Disappointing Defensive Player...Anthony Henry. I think he's playing too soft. Hamlin is too. I can't disagree with you on that.

Best Special Teams Player...Folk. I need to wash my mouth out with soap.

Worst Special Teams Player...Tony Curtis. Thanks, we needed McBriar.

Best Play of the Season...Terrell's catch that almost went behind his back.

Worst Play of the Season...Tony Curtis playing matador and killing McBriar.

Best Draft Pick... Felix.

Worst Draft Pick...Walden.

Best Coaching Job...There isn't one I would praise.

Worst Coaching Job...Special Teams. I'd rather stand with my legs spread and get kicked in the balls than to watch us try to tackle on Special Teams, and I got to tell you, I don't like gettign kicked in the balls.

Our average margin of victory has been 8 points.. Our average margin of loss has been 4 points.

That tells me that this team could be 6-0 just as easily as it could be 0-6 (ok, 1-5, that cleveland game wasn't that bad). that's a bit disturbing.

I third that.

And that says a lot for a 4-2 team.

BTW, if we win in OT last week, Barber's catch and run is the Play of the Year.

best coaching job - none of the coaches have their units playing mistake free ball. nor have they brought huge improvements. the best unit though is john garrett. he's got bennett ready to play. and tony curtis has played better, despite his missed blocks.

maybe even ray sherman. he's got the only player that has improved substantially this year. miles austin

most improved defensive player-spears, and that's unfortunate because he hasn't really taken a big leap. he's just the by default guy because no one has stepped up.

most disappointing defensive player - chris canty. chris canty is in a contract year and has come out just flat. he's playing worse than spears. thought he would step up his play this year.

apart from adam's offfield. he's been the best cb this year. and hard to blame him on the punt returns.

offensive mvp - jason witten. no contest. he's the best TE in football right now. and his versatility is keeping this offense moving. had a really subpar game against the cardinals though.

best gm move - felix of course

worst gm move-cutting ferguson and going with tank. i really believe if ferguson was here. cowboys would've been undefeated.

hopes for the future- 1)a healthy kosier and the rest of the group
2)a health spencer
3)the old roy williams
4)emergence of jason hatcher

I think that extreme... you cant do a 6-0 or 0-6 swing based on point differential... but I get where you are going.

I think we are fortunate to be 4-2... we could be 3-3 at worst IMO.

I really think we shoulbe be 5-1... yeah yeah the Skins wanted it more and deserved. They are not the better team but showed hunger and got it. We need to do that. The Cards just got up for game and we were still on "denial lane" - they got us.

So... more important than any record comparison IS..... we are 4-2... so what are we gonna do about the season going forward?

Are we gonna go "on a mission"? Us against the world?

or

Are we gonna try and get by with our "good looks"(good looking team on paper) but folds like a paper bag at times?

I am hoping for the former... because quite honestly... if the team doesnt take that approach we will probably go one and out in playoffs or maybe win one playoff game and then be done. For some that will be some sort of victory/accomplishment... but not for me.

This team is designed to go the distance to win it all. They are just not yet "primed" to go the distance and win it all.

Soon, I hope.

Offensive MVP...
Terrell Owens, he is the lightning rod on this offense... without him the entire offense isn't nearly as explosive

Defensive MVP...
Ware, he is the man that defensive coordinators plan for first... without Ware there isn't a consistent pass rush

Most improved offensive player...
Miles Austin, already has some TDs to add to the offense's production

Most improved defensive player...
Marcus Spears, he has been steady and looks bigger along with his playing effort. Keep it up big fella

Most dissapointing offensive player...
the entire offensive line... with the size of this offensive line and addition of coach Hudson Houck, Dallas should be leading the league in rushing instead we're 8th... Our old castoff RB JJo... his team is 5th... what gives?

Most dissapointing defensive player...
Hamlin... Where you at fella? How bout you start playing like you were when you were on fire last year.

Best special teams player...
Nick Folk... still steady at the end of games. No other accolades for the pathetic crew we call special teams

Worst special teams player...
Bobby Carpenter... finesse player wont make plays on kickoff return defense by running around blocks. send him back to Parcells next season please

Best play of the season...
TO's bomb TD against Philly running between the CB and safety. Special mention to all of Felix Jones TD's.

Worst play of the season...
Okefor coming around the edge (as was the norm that day) and sacking Romo on the first play of OT after Dallas seemingly regained the momentum with Folk's FG to tie in regulation... Same old lack of urgency and limp effort to the finish

Best draft pick...
Felix Jones in a landslide. His running is just exciting to watch. Beers somehow wind up getting spilled during his long TD runs

Worst draft pick...
Who cares!? Can I pick Carpenter from 2 years ago?? how about David LaFleur then ??? OK never mind

Best coaching job...
ummm, I like John Garrett, Ray Sherman, and Skip Peete... hang in there guys and make these guys accountable. There is good games ahead

Worst coaching job... Special Teams in a complete landslide!!!! nothing else is close! The crap special teams effort kept Cincinnati in the game two weeks ago and pretty much sealed the Cowboy's fate last week with the points put up...

Good post.
I had to elaborate on this.

Ware made it possible to win the Philly game especially at the end.
Ware made it possibe to win the Cards game at the end. We just didnt close the deal in OT.

Disagree completely.

The W/L record is fine. What's disappointing is the way they're playing, win or lose.

Good overall post David.

I'm disappointed also but it's still October.

The prize is still given away in Feb. so there is time.

Worst Coaching Job.. Bruce Read, and it's not even close

yeah but he was lousy last yr & lousy in TC...its no surprise to me they ST are still bad

on the other hand, Phillips was hired almost solely because of what he could do for the defense...we've invested a ton of high draft picks and cap money on that side of the ball, and the defense is still incapable of winning a game

hence, worst coaching job

I disagree...watch him play, and he's clearly doing his job and doing it very well. He's also getting some pass rush on the few opportunities he gets to do that...he was good in TC and preseason, and its carried over

most disappointing defensive player - chris canty. chris canty is in a contract year and has come out just flat. he's playing worse than spears. thought he would step up his play this year.

honestly I see him as the same as he has always been...an average starter

apart from adam's offfield. he's been the best cb this year. and hard to blame him on the punt returns.

I couldnt disagree more here...I dont know what people were watching with him, but he got thrown at alot and got beat alot...he broke up a few passes, but when people throw at you as much as they have him you should break up a few...he also dropped the gimmee picks thrown right to him...his best play of the yr is a forced fumble on a running play...as for the punt returns, he's been horrendous...he's turned several 10 yd returns into nothing or a few yds, and thats bad

offensive mvp - jason witten. no contest. he's the best TE in football right now. and his versatility is keeping this offense moving. had a really subpar game against the cardinals though.

I could see this and wouldnt complain much...I just think Jones' big plays have been huge

worst gm move-cutting ferguson and going with tank. i really believe if ferguson was here. cowboys would've been undefeated.

this is another one I disagree a ton on...Ferguson is not better than Ratliff...for the season with Miami he has 8 tackles and no sacks...we got something for nothing ith him...he is done

hopes for the future- 1)a healthy kosier and the rest of the group
2)a health spencer
3)the old roy williams
4)emergence of jason hatcher

Hatcher is a major disappointment...he hasnt looked good since the first week or so of last years training camp

Spears has picked his game up a notch. I agree.

Ware is a beast. And Henry has seemed a 1/2 step slow too often. I can't tell about Hamlin but I've repeatedly said the safety play was a problem. I do think if the pass rush picks up some then the DBs will look better.
