after watching the playoff game replay

TonyRomo#9

anyone thinking MBIII and Romo weren't anything but great in that game, are severelly mistaken, they both played their hearts out.. if there is anyone to blame for that loss, it is...

  • Patrick Crayton - i know its been said many times before, but thats because it is true, we all know the guy has great hands, he just dropped the ball when it counted the most. he is still a very good player i want on my team. and he will excell against less able coverage if he becomes a #3 again, which he should.
  • O-line - late in the game they started to get worn out, or something, perticuliarly the left side, flozell and kosiar, this truelly is a great unit, and realize they were playing a defensive front like the NFL won't see for another 20 years or so.. add more chemistry(in my opininon the most important aspect to an O-line) and houck coaching them up, and a truelly great line for the future... P.S. houck... have gurode practice shotgun snaps all off-season.. he had better have it down this year..
  • Demarcus Ware - he needs to slow down to about half-speed so us mere mortals, and the refs won't mistake his insane jump as offsides.. lol obviously this is a joke, the refs need to watch closer and remember, tie goes the the runner. right? maybe they are throwing a flag for using ESP on the football field.
  • refs - yeah they weren't a huge deal, but the D-Ware offsides was a joke. and pulling the pass interferance flag up was a joke too.. did they change the game.. who knows, noone ever will.

Now id like to point out the people i thought did great..
  • Romo - romo played great all game, and even did great things when the o-line started to callapse. when i think of the worse plays in passing. i think, glenn slipping, almost leading to a pick, not romo's fault. Crayton... enough said... the only plays that could be seen as bad from romo were the one questionable grounding, and one sack he took, when he shoulda thrown it away.. the last play i don't blame him for.. it was 4th and long, with 16seconds left and no timeout. the team as a whole got into that terrible position.
  • MBIII - did great, he was punishing, and was wearing them out. he played with a lot of heart, and im very excited to see him this season. those who say he faded late.. i point to the o-line fading, not him.
  • TO - injured or not, he stepped up, made every play he was given an oppurtunity to make. the one deep pass that the announcers acted like went through his hands was tipped by the defender. i think TO will have a huge year next year if a solid number two plays. whether it be glenn, or someone new.
  • Witten - just like TO, i think witten made the play on every chance he got to make one. he did great, and will only get better as he and romo grow together, they allready have some of the best chemistry in the league, those two will make beautiful music together for many years to come.

Thanks for the post.

I saw that same replay and never understood why people blamed Romo's vacation for that loss.

I think the whole team should have went on a vacation. Maybe they'll play better.:laugh2:

I agree 100 percent with this thread......ROMO played very good in his 1st playoff game.....as a qb....should not have been a holder in the 1st place.....but, hindsight is what?

One person to blame, Reeves.

Guy didn't deserve to be on the field, and we got exposed. No way of disguising it, no complex coverages can stop a guy simply not stopping his guy from catching the ball at will.

Certainly beating a very dead horse, but Aaron Glenn - wouldn't have let himself get beaten like a drum. Or in this case, a dead horse.

I know the Crayton thing has been beaten to death, but it's unfortunately true. He dropped a pass that I believe changed the game.

If he catches the pass, it's no less than a first down conversion on 3rd and 14. At that point the Giant pass rush is starting to get stronger. If he catches the pass and the Giants D stays on the field, it is likely that they get deflated at having Romo escape from their grasp again and keep the chains moving. Instead they get a huge boost, with getting off the field on third down, followed by the huge punt return. Following the punt return with a short field NY takes the lead for good and the momentum has completely switched to their side. Up until that point, Dallas had seemed in firm control. All because of one dropped pass.

Unfortunately we forget the nice catches he did make during the game and indeed over the last couple of seasons. I'm still glad to have him on my team, and would still trust him to make that catch on 3rd down 9 out of 10 times regardless of the pressure of the situation. It's just the one that got away, and he's got to bounce back much the same way Romo had to bounce back from 'The Snap'.

Yes lets not be afraid to say that Romo made mistakes.

While he played well enough to win and had the game winning throw on the 2nd to last play of the game... he also had an intentional grounding and other blunders here and there.

Let not "Favre" this guy.... call him what he is... a very good player with a "chance" to be great.

you guys watch the game again.. i saw great.
18-36 for 201 yards with 1 td and 1 interception. that's not great.

Aikman in the 1992 superbowl was

22-30 for 273 yards with 4 tds and no interceptions. that's great.

Romo played great for a QB with 1.5 years as a starter under his belt.He did not play great by championship caliber QB standards. He seemed a bit lost towards the end. I trust that he will gain from the experience and I am excited and happy to have him as the starting QB for the Cowboys. I think he can and will be great if he wants to be.

Agreed.

Agreed... but close.

Except, as you stated.... he looked lost... dazed and confused.

I agree.

Agreed... he needs to forget about the rockstar status... and his version of the Good Old Boy Favre approach.

no way should the cowboys take another week off in a big game like that ;

thats what was the main problem, i have been posting about what nate newton said, that the offensive linemen were being pushed around in 2nd half, and nate newton said what he saw during the bye week and up to the game, the offenisve linemen didnt do their cardivacular work; it was up to them to work an hour a day when off;, they didnt do that

then i got further confirmation when erik williams that played for the washington Commanders, and he said, that he saw the way the offenssive linemen didnt do their work during the bye week, and when they got some rest in the last game etc, you could tell they were flat.

so now maybe with Houck, he will change that;

another play that hurt us was the touchdown pass that Fasano let get through his hands and hit him in the chest;

that hurt, because at the end of that game, we wouldnt had to have a touchdown but kick a winning field goal if fasano had caught that pass

yes, romo and barber played their heart out;

the refs did blow some calls, they even admitted the NFL Refs after game was over, the call on Romo shouldnt have been called, that even when Eli threw away a ball, he should have been called for intentional grounding;

yes, there was some other plays too, on the big punt return by the giants, a giant player grabbed a dallas cowboys player by the jersey and shoulder pads, pulling him down and backwards,

the offsides ware, yes, even troy aikman showed on film during the game, that O'Hara moved the football forward and backward, then snapped the ball which is illegal;

O'Hara did the same thing in the superbowl. that move by the center is a well known play to get the opposing teams to jump offsides, but the refs blew it;

but what upset me more than anything, the commissioner goodell decided to try a new procedure, he had head refs work with another crew, and in that itself, the head ref was well known for calling in favor of the home team, but the rest of the crew was well known for calling for the opposing team, and we saw where the majority of the calls were made;

even the refs that called the game, most of them were from new york;

so again, all in all, the cowboys players like newman said took the giants lightly, which is wrong on their part, that shows no heart and intensity for a big game like that,

hopefully those players learned a big lesson from that big kinda game that you have to show emotion, heart, working during the bye week on staying in shape, studying film, so its a definite big NO next time if the cowboys come up with a bye week again, no dallas cowboy player needs to go off partying, they need to be working out, staying in shape, studying film and getting ready as well as the Head Coach and his assistants

My concerns are...

I remember hearing and thinking that "oh the Cowboys have a bad taste in their mouth after losing to Seattle the year before"

I DID NOT SEE THAT at the end of this past season... I DID NOT SEE THAT in the playoff game vs. Giants.

I would have thought that the Giants lost that game to Seattle the year before.

THAT STILL concerns me.

Did the Giants loss leave a bad taste in their mouth?

We will see....

Romo needs to get rid of the ball, and sometimes I think he should run straight ahead instead of dancing in the pocket trying to make a play in the air.

Crayton had a few very nice catches in the game , I don't fault him at all.

Beyond that I walked away from the game thinking the refs did a horrible job across the board.

oh and thank god reeves is gone

YoMick, I agree with you on the bad taste in their mouth; the cowboys have continually lost in playoffs in 2003, 05-06 and last game in playoffs against the giants.

i agree with what emmit smith said, this team lacks heart, intensity, swagger, etc.

i think some of that was corrected with what newman has said, what crayton has said, and with addition of zach thomas to the team, that to me is the BIG KEY ISSUE, THIS TEAM NEEDS LEADERS THAT HATE LOSING, WANT TO BE CHAMPIONS, THEY WONT SETTLE FOR LESS;

TALK IS CHEAP, ITS TIME FOR THE COWBOYS TO PUT UP OR SHUT UP;

its like jason witten, and i think he will be a big leader this year, he isnt going off on no partying trip if the cowboys get a bye week this year in playoffs, and i dont think he will let romo do the same thing either;

thats what is needed big time on this team;

i think the next big step if for Wade phillips to realize, he has been to the playoffs 4 times, and each time he as head coach lost in the playoffs the first round? Why Wade Phillips, its time for you to realize what you have been doing in December with your team hasnt been working, to look at yourself deeply figure out what you have been doing wrong as a head coach and correct it.

besides wade phillips you had better wake up if you dont win some playoff games, and at least get to the big championship game and show a good game, then your on your way out;

jason garrett will be taking over, so you had better wake up

some buffalo fans have said, that on some fridays you leave for lunch and dont come back to the practice field, that you stay with your wife, partying or whatever.

well, the dallas cowboys is your baby right now, and you had better take care of her, like jimmy johnson and emotional head coach dick vermeil said, your married to the team when you become the head coach, you have to work long hours and be prepared and get your team prepared, you cant do that taking a bye week off and letting the team take that full time off and not stay in shape, working, looking at film,

in other words wade philips better not be no more camp cupcake in december and january;

one more thing wade phillips camp cupcake coach, i learned this from a great coach John Madden said, the teams takes on the personality of the Head Coach, if you laid back, reserve, wanting to party in december, content with a 13-3 season, then so will the team, the dallas cowboys players;

time to wake up and grow up wade phillips, no more excuses!!!!!!!!

You do realize that Witten went to Cabo with Romo last year, right?

Some people act like they never played sports before. When you get two equally matched teams or players, sometimes the other team or player is just better that day. It wasn't because you didn't care, or didn't have heart, or took too many vacations, or didn't want it.
