I don't like it either. I just don't think he can play.

What's even more disturbing is how often it was reported how hard he was working and studying to get better and learn the position.

Yowza...

I may get boooed for this but I have never been all that sol on Barry Church ( let me duck now)

Barry had some bad games last year.. first Washington game, New Orleans... 2nd GIants games he was pretty bad. But he had good performances as well. St. Louis, Oakland and ironically the first game against the Giants were good games for him.

With an improved pass rush - and a full season as a starter under his belt, Barry will probably be very much improved this year. Don't forget he missed a season. Up until this point I haven't been blown away or anything by the guy. I'm just not sold yet. Who knows what his 2nd full season as a Starter will bring him. That's what I kept thinking last year whenever he had a bad game - I had to remind myself it was his first season as a starter. He was basically a rookie back there.

In my opinion, made the team tonight.

Interesting that he was in at safety early and Heath was pushed to nickel DB.

Dude can bring the lumber! I am hoping that they keep 3 QB's. Vaughn will not make it past waivers if they try to sneak him through IMO.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us playing some big nickel defense with him. A 2-4-5 would look nice, seeing as our defensive line depth is looking absolutely threadbare.

I skipped to the bottom of this thread so I apologize if already said but if you go back and look at some of his Junior year film, you would have thought there is no way he will be drafted in the 7th round. He can play, but like almost every other Safety on this roster, he's a true Strong Safety.

Ahmad Dixon really got the Cowboys attention. Got some reps with the first team today. He showed up big time. Garrett was very impressed.
----

good for him,he needs to avoid any further head injuries though.

Good to hear because he was one of the few that showed up like they care and can play at the same time.

The only concern is his fit. I see no reason why he could not necessarily be a starter if had a complementary piece, i.e. a safety better in coverage, with him.

He and Church are more similar than different.

I know Ahmad as I am close to the Baylor program, he is a good kid, his dyslexia has occasionally held him back, but he always practices hard, plays harder, and puts in the time to correct his mental errors.

Most mental errors he made at Baylor were either his passion driving him to a level above what referees liked, such as post play antics, or bogus referee flags that thought perfectly legal violent hits were dirty plays.

He will start for Dallas by the end of this rookie year, book it.

Excited two Baylor Bears, two great players, will be Cowboy starters going forward.

I saw a lot of him in college too and I was very excited for the pick, esp in the 7th round. He was in my Cowboys mock draft picks but I really thought he'd be gone somewhere rounds 4-5. Love his game. Sure he's not a true cover safety but frankly I'm not sure we have any decent cover S's on our entire roster right now. At least Dixon can do SOMETHING well. He played great for Baylor while facing forward and the ball and WRs in front of him. He has outstanding (and quick) reaction time. I thought he did pretty well at Baylor against the short passes, screens, TEs, short routes, quick outs, as long as the play is in front of him. The deep stuff will haunt him but hopefully he improves there. The deep stuff haunts most Ss in the NFL. Dixon excelled playing a gambling, attacking-style D. I'm afraid our lack of a DL, pass rush, and overall horrible D will expose him. BOTOH, it'd make Ed Reed and Eric Berry look bad too.
I have little doubt the guy sticks to our roster and sees signify snaps by the end of the season. Will not surprise me at all if he gets some starts before the year is over.
He's going to make some big plays and it will be hard to keep him off the field, esp given the slew of meh we have at the S position. The rest don't get burned as much, but they don't make any plays either.

Good point, and a tank commander's very last resort to assist his gunner to identify a target is: 'Watch MY tracers.'

I really hope this guy makes it, he got critizized during the combine and pre draft stuff, too slow, etc, he just seems too have the instincts I just think that when you want too lay the wood all the time you'll go out like he did, but certainly like too see people that like too hit and bring guys down not just hit and not wrap up.

Church starts on this team? 4.7 is the new standard...wait our LBs run tha(we have problems in coverage...get outta here)
