Aikman's 2 cents

I think there is more to the Cowboys — it is easy to say as an owner or a general manger or as any one else in the organization, ‘oh, it’s coaching.’ It runs deeper than that. There have been a lot of coaches that have come through the organization and the results have been pretty familiar from one season to the next overall.

I agree that you have to take a hard look at everything, but I think just saying 'we have this great roster and it’s all about coaching," I think that’s a little bit of a cop out.

Aikman knows just can't say it publicly ......

The one common denominator has been GM jerry. Glean from that what you will.

I disagree with the premise that the 'Boys can't/won't make it to the Super Bowl as long as JJ owns the team. Believe me, there's no one who loathes JJ as much as I do. I detest him as an owner & GM, he's everything that's wrong with the 'Boys and the NFL. That said, I don't think it's chiseled in stone that he won't pick a competent HC. Jerry isn't really stupid, he's just stubborn. By now Jerry has to know it will take a top of the line HC to get this team to the promised land. Until Jerry makes his choice I'll hold out hope. If Jerry does hire a puppet, or extends Garrett, or makes some bone-headed decision like promoting Moore or Richard, I'll eat my words. Until then I won't be of the there's-no-hope crowd like I see on this thread.

This is an important decision for Jerry and he knows it. So it will certainly be very interesting and really tell you where he stands one way or the other.

Hire a strong personality HC that hires his own coaching staff. It will not be more than coaching IF that happens.

I'm OK with Urban Meyer assuming they can't get Belichick...

That's Lionel Vital in the back not Will McClay.

Good catch, ty sir

Everyone's just assuming Aikman's referring to the Jones family, and well, they're probably right. At first, I thought maybe he was talking about more, but I don't see what other possibilities there are, short of aliens, curses, or league wide conspiracies.

What's interesting is that Aikman has seen first hand that the right coach can win big with present ownership

Not at all dismissing the hurdle that the Jones family poses. Just saying that Aikman should know as well as anyone that it takes am incredibly special coach but it can be done

One thought that keeps occuring to me is, more and more as time goes by I think Jimmy looks more and more like a Hall of Fame coach

I mean, to win in this dysfunctional mess of an organization, at the level he did, seems more and more impressive an accomplishment as time passes.

Truly incredible

Troy also sees that Jimmy wouldn't have been here if Jerry had known he'd get all the credit for the SBs. We were lucky that didn't happen until he'd won a couple and set the team up to win with "any coach" once he left.

Unfortunately that post is absolutely teeming with truth

Jerry probably simultaneously views Jimmy as the best--and worst--coaching hire he ever made:muttley:

After jackass fired Jimmy Johnson and assumed he knew everything about football which we all know how that worked out oh I'm sorry we got one Super Bowl there after Jimmy left anybody that doesn't think that was Jimmy team u need to go take a look in the mirror we actually should have been four in a row 2 after Jimmy left he had that team set up beautifully

GM Jerry never neutered Jason. He neutered Wade with Jason. Jerry was forced in a situation of covering the incompetence of Jason via giving power to the coordinators, instead of simply firing him and getting a real coach
