I don't know how comfortable he is in Virginia, or how long he would last, but it seems pretty logical. We have drafted a few of his players, he has good experience with the 3-4 and he has a good relationship with the organization.

Just a thought...

Why would anyone want Al Groh when we have the best 3-4 DC the NFL has ever seen.....Mike Zimmer.

Hey, I'd love to have Al Groh on staff here as DC. I think the only possibility there would be promising him the head coaching job once Parcells retires. And I'd be fine with that too come to think of it. Though Groh is no spring chicken himself and doubtful he leaves UVA.

Very- it was his dream job and he quit an NFL head coaching gig to get it, so I doubt he ever leaves his alma mater.

I'll never understand why people assume someone would give a head Coaching gig somewhere else, even in college, just to come be one of our coordinators.

Well, the younger coaches have aspirations of being a Head Coach and they can transition to one smoothly by being a coordinator first. Al Groh, obviously doesn't fit this description, but, it was a longshot thought.

Being a Head Coach already, it doesn't seem likely to take a step backwards even if it is a step up in rank. College Coaches get shots at the NFL just like Coordinators do.

The only way I could see something like this happening is if the money was so rediculouse, it would be impossible to pass up or if the possability of becoming the HC was dangled. The later I don't really see but who knows.

why would a guy want to take a huge pay cut, give up a hc job, to be a dc?

Well, In Groh's case, he had a HC job in the NFL and quit after 1 year. Supposedly not liking the pressure.

That being the case, I wouldn't think he'd be looking to return to the HC ranks in the NFL, which could lend a bit of credibility to an interest at the coordinator level. Meaning that (getting a 'shot' or not) he would not be interested in being an NFL HC again.

However, I think it's far more likely that he simply prefers College and would not want to return to the NFL in any capacity.

He won't....many wondered if he'd be fired this offseason....he has done very little there...always a disappointment.

Zimm will probably leave, even if he doesnt, we could use someone better. Here's hoping that he just leaves and makes it easier.
Al Groh is fine by me, tell him to bring Parham Robinson with him.

We have a winner. Will be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of years there, since most of his coaches (and top recruiters) left for other jobs.

I will gladly pass on Mr. Groan.
