This guy needs to hit the offseason weight training program bigtime. I am wondering though did his previous injuries hold him back from getting bigger and stronger this past offseason? He doesnt look stronger at all. Plus he seems to have a lot of knee issues is this something that is going to constantly be around or is it over and done with?
I am thinking we need another center in the offseason or FA.

If he doesn't bulk up, I'd like to see us either move Gurode to center or go after another guy with Al as a backup.

Gurode is playing center.

And he's doing a bad job.

Al is good at the mental aspects of the game -- but he hasn't gotten bigger since college -- in fact, he's getting smaller -- likely resulting from losing weight to rehab his 1st year knee surgery.

Gurdoe makes mistakes. He's physically a beast. But his isn't delivering on the mental end.

I think if you had to bet on one improving, I'd have to go with Al -- to me it seems getting bigger physically would be easier than getting mentally stronger.

Kevin Mawae might be a cap crunch in NY, do you guys think BP would sign another of his guys? AlJ can learn from Mawae when we have our SB push next year.

In this day and age with nutrition and everything that we know, how can you not be able to bulk up or gain weight? But i’ll give Al some credit, he can hold with the best of them.

Parcells said earlier in the year that Al worked hard in the weight room and was about as big as he was going to get...

I guess the issue is whether he meant this year or forever. You wouldn't expect players to bulk up anymore during the season -- but you could expect off-season improvement.

Keep in mind last season was his first focusing on entirely building mass -- the year of his surgery, he focused mostly on rehab -- which usually entails keeping weight off to promote better healing of the knee.

Hate to bring it up -- but we drafted Gurode over this guy.
ugh... gurode is too stupid to ever get it. I hope we get Bentley just so we can release him.

Though you love LeCharles, I can't see us spending big coin on the line next year. We've just got too much money invested there right now. The whole idea behind the Rivera signing was that he would help develop guys on either side of him.

From what I remember reading - AJ has been hitting the weights hard since he got here. Parcell's stated that during his rookie season when he was hurt that AJ "lived" in the weight room. I just don't think he's going to get much bigger.

Why all the hate for Gurode? Someone said he's sucking this year which is so far from the truth it's not even funny. The fact is, he's played very sparingly behind AJ and I don't recall any issues when he's on the field this year. Don't know how that's considered sucking?

The last time he got extended playing time, BP reported he made 3 mental errors in 10 plays. The rest of the line made a single mental error ALL game.

Gurode has done what seems otherwise impossible -- used his limited playing time to demonstrate clearly that he does in fact suck.

I don't know what game you're referring to, but I've not heard of our entire collective OL going an entire game this season with a single mental error. Especially with a rookie RT and Tucker at LT

astounding that a rookie and Tucker are making Gurode look bad already. Gurode and Tucker were once on the same page, but Tucker got over the hump and Gurode doesnt seem to be able to.

And Mawae is 10 lbs. lighter than Johnson.

I said it before -- some folks look for ANY excuse to make a negative evaluation of a black man.

No, Al was working out hard in his first year, but not doing serious mass building. He had a major knee surgery his first year. Rehab on such a surgery isn't consistent with getting bigger -- I'd expect most doctors would recommend losing weight to reduce pressure on the regenerating cartilage.

But for whatever reason, BP hasn't given up on Gurode just like he hung in there with Tucker. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on the guy just yet if for no other reason that we can use his depth on the OL
