Al Michaels?

Personally, I like Al Michaels a lot and think he is the best play by play man in the game. I don't mind being a minority in that opinion though.

I'm the same way, Hos. He's by far my favorite play-by-play man and, for me at least, really elevates the feeling of a prime-time game.

I've never really gotten the hate thing. To me if a guy is talking about one team it doesn't mean he hates the other. It means that int he flow of that game that is the topic.

So you specifically remember all the hate coming from the NBC crew during the Cowboys SB run in the 90's? You could hear them rooting for Pittsburgh in their voices? FANS like you hear things that no one else can because no fan base in the NFL has more sensitive, delusional FANS than the Cowboys. Cowboy FANS associate criticism with hate. That's why some of us objective realists on this site are labeled haters. I watched the original NFL Today with Brent Musburger, Phillis George and Jimmy the Greek and never once got the impression Musburger hated the Cowboys.

Phillis never hid her love for the Cowboys and if Musburger hated them the friction between the two would have been noticeable. I'm not denying the Cowboys are hated by some we all know they are but too many Cowboy FANS get hyper sensitive about every comment made about the team. If you want to read something negative into every comment made about the team that's on you.
FANS.....Hmmmmmm.

Why is it to hard to believe that the hate for the Cowboys is contained to just fans. It absolutely extends to broadcasters, columnists and yes, even officials. They're human, I used to officiate Division One basketball and I know it exists.

Because every week some dopey fan has to complain about every announcer out there being a "Cowboy Hater", heck people complain about Aikman when he criticizes any Cowboy! It's annoying and just stupid. These guys aren't paid to be cheerleaders, they're objective and most of them do a fairly good job on the networks. Of course the ESPN and NFL network guys pretty much stink (Tirico is ok, barely) but the other guys are pros who absolutely call some player out for making a mistake. Compare it to the "drut"s who call the college games openly in favor of their favorites like ND, Michigan, and whatever program strokes their ego and probably does them favors.

All the announcers are pretty good to me. Some of them can be more annoying than others at times but overall I think most are balanced. Aside from the random NFL games with people like Faulk, etc.

Bias clouds the perception of nearly every fan. Some people who are simply giving reasonable praise, are perceived as "homers." Some people who are simply giving reasonable criticism, are perceived as "haters."

To those who are haters, even normal fans are sometimes perceived as homers. To those who are homers, even normal fans are sometimes perceived as haters.

Someone who calls himself an "objective realist" is using himself and his own scale of perspective to define and classify himself. It's no more than if someone else on the forum self-identified himself as objective, unbiased, or impartial. Oftentimes fans from all points of the spectrum - negative, neutral, or positive - consider themselves to be "realists."

If you are a minority in that opinion, it says this board is nuts.

FANS the ones who run to the board in need of a group hug everytime they read something negative into a comment made about the Cowboys by someone in the media. FANS the ones who are ultra sensitive and delusional. FANS the ones who can't bare to hear impartial views about the team because some may be negative. My advice to FANS is either don't watch NFL coverage on ESPN, NFLN, CBS, NBC or Fox or simply turn down the volume when perceived Cowboy haters like Marshall Faulk are talking about the team.

There's a button on your remote called "mute" press it during Cowboy game broadcasts so you don't have to listen to announcers be objective. If you can get a signal listen to Brad Sham on the radio do the game he certainly won't say anything about the team that will have you running to the Zone to start a thread to have others join you in a big cry fest.

Exactly even Troy has taken some heat here for being critical about the team. One fan came crying claiming Troy has turned his back on the Cowboys. :laugh2:

I really enjoy Thom Brennaman and wish he was featured more by FOX

just thought I'd say that

Bias clouds the perception of FANS we see that on this board everyday but anyone who talks football for a living in front of millions can't allow bias to cloud theirs or they will often end up looking stupid. The ability to maintain objectivity and keep emotion out of the decision making process is critical to making sound calls. To be a good analyst you have to be able to separate emotion from the situation or your opinions will eventually end up being worthless and you'll lose credibility.

Picking games and analyzing teams based on emotion or sentiment can lead to bad results. The word "hater" gets tossed around here all the time by those who associate criticism and objectivity with hate. No one is going to contribute to this forum on a daily basis with any ounce of passion if they're a hater.

If you didn't notice the hate in all three of the 90s Super Bowls from the NBC crew then I guess there's no use in discussing it anyway. There were negative comments throughout. They nitpicked every little thing, like the pick they harped on by Novacek in Super Bowl XXX, yet you could hear how they were rooting for Pittsburgh in their voices. That's just one example. And yes, they sounded stupid because of it.

As far as respected media people, Brent Musburger was very respected yet he outright HATED those great Cowboys teams of the 70s, taking shots at them every chance he got.

It is what it is. Not giving a damn is fine. Not wanting to discuss or hear about it is your prerogative. But why deny it when it's there?

Well put. It's incredibly obvious that Al Michaels does not like Dallas. Just like it's obvious that Joe Buck dislikes the Cowboys. Those guys will harp on a call they think went Dallas' way, yet barely acknowlegde the bad calls that go against the Cowboys. It not only annoys Cowboys fans, but alters the average fan's opinion of what transpired in the game. One can also often hear the difference in how they call a big play in the game - the level of excitement is very different. The classic example is Buck's "TD Dallas...no flags". Then listen to him call a TD for the other team and you'd think he'd just won the lottery. Michaels gushes over Dallas' opponent (regardless of who it is) while having a less than enthusiastic tone when it comes to Dallas. I actually turn the volume down when those guys are calling the games. Moose does a solid job of calling a fair game and I leave the volume on when he's doing the game. It's annoying to listen to Micheals and Buck, but it makes it a little sweeter when Dallas shuts them up I suppose.

You know, come to think about it after reading this thread...I don't ever remember what any announcer says during a game!

I'm more into the actual game rather than hearing what some shmuck announcer is saying.

I take my beliefs of the team from what I see, not from what I hear.

thank you!!

That's funny.

I don't know man, I just think some people actually pay too much attention to the announcers. I don't. I listen to them if they are telling a story about a given player. For instance, I always listen for injury updates. I thought Michaels was pretty praiseworthy of the guts Witten had to be out there playing.

I believe all of them have biases, and so what? I do, so why can't they. It really only bothers me if someone is like Faulk who is clearly pushing his petty little agendas for reactions. Oh sorry, he's just talking about dentistry. I forgot that.

The announcer who drives me craziest is Berman and really only because his shtick never stops. I have come to believe he cannot say the word Raiders. He has to growl The Raaaaaaaaaaaayduuuuuuuuhs when he says it. That is annoying. So is the Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Men.

Al Michaels to me, has always been a consummate professional who calls it as he sees it, and frankly has never bothered me at all. I know he's a 49ers fan. It doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I don't know if he's biased but one thing I noticed is him calling Dez "silly" for running the ball in after the refs failed to blow the play over and he didn't think he'd been tackled.

Might be the first time I've heard a player called "silly" for playing to the whistle.

I won't even read this drivel. If you aren't a FAN, then what the hell are you? And if you're above Cowboys FANS, then what the hell are doing on this board? After all, we're just a bunch of butthurt idiots to a realist like yourself.
