Former MetroWest Daily News writer and Patriots beat guy, Albert Breer, will be leaving the Dallas Morning News on June 26 to take a national job with The Sporting News on July 7. Breer, 28, will be moving back to his native Boston (a Lincoln-Sudbury graduate of 1998) and be based here for TSN. “This is what I want to do,” said Breer. “My goal has been to cover the league, not just one team, and that’s what I’ll be doing now.” (Breer will team with TSN’s Clifton Brown and Dennis Dillon on NFL coverage.)
There will certainly be an adjustment period for Breer as he develops deeper sources and contacts throughout the league, but his rise through the ranks has been impressive - aided, he said, by now having covered both the Patriots and the Cowboys. “I’m young, but I tend to get along well with football people,” said Breer. “This is a position I’ll be able to grow in.”
. . . Amusing to see how at least one of Breer’s colleagues at the DMN took to calling him Albert Einstein.
. . . Breer pointed out that the DMN is used to losing writers to national outlets. “Look at how many people have been poached from here: Matt Mosley, Ed Werder, Mark Stein, Tim Kurkjian - all those guys were DMN reporters.”

Man, I just knew this would happen but this is much sooner than I expected.

I'm going to miss his insight. He was head and shoulders above the rest of the DMN crew.

That explains why he was missing in action about a week ago. He must have been back in beantown situating his move back home.

Breer was much better than Timmy. Now let's hope they find someone more like Breer and less like Timmy as the replacement.

Werder, Mosely and now Breer .. being the DMN beatwriter for the Cowboys seems to be quite a stepping stone for a National gig.

Breer was REALLY good. Hope he does not get lazy like all too many do once they make it to the big time.
We all knew he was going to be gone- have to admit I had hoped we would get at least this season out of him.

Those idiots at Belo will probably promote some fool like McMahon.

Which is one reason their stock chart looks like this.

The nerve.

And after just getting his own icon on the Zone.

I mean, that's the pinnacle right there.

I hear there's this Parchman guy looking for a job with Cowboys coverage experience in his back pocket. I mean, I don't know the specifics, but I hear he's alright.

Why is that? I was being serious when I said that too. Everytime I see a person on tv they always say there from one of the areas listed

that is a shame. Breer and archer are the rational intelligent writers.

I didnt think breer would last long. I am shocked Todd Archer is still here.

Hopefully someone is coming down the road that loves and understands football as well as breer.

It will also be interesting to see Breer's take on the cowboys from a national perspective.

Disappointed Breer leaving. His analysis of the Cowboys after a game was always very interesting & sound. Will miss him. Would hope his analysis of the Cowboys far afar would be fair but doubt it. He'll probably revert back to his first love--the Pats--and trash us as the team in waiting.
