I am certainly cheering for the guy. From the little bit I've seen he seems like a playmaker and good decision maker.

Nothing wrong with him taking over in three or four years or so if he's good enough.

Worst case scenario his starting career only lasts 4-5 years.

Tanny is intriging, but I wouldn't jump the gun. He's been cut by 2 teams already. I don't know why, but there has to be a reason for it.
His name is Tanney and no, he hasn't been cut by two teams. He has been cut by one. One which just got a new HC and new GM, traded a high price for a starting QB, signed a solid backup, still has a 5th round pick "developmental" QB, and just signed and UDFA who if he wasn't a dummy would have been a fairly high pick. Also, remeber Tanney never saw the field last year because he was put on IR before the season. He was gonna get cut. there was no doubt about that. No film, no ties to new regime, etc. That doesn't mean he isn't talented.

So, thinking Romo can play another 5 years is stretch, but thinking a DIII QB, who's been cut twice already, will be our future franchise QB isn't. Sure, why not?
Again, see my previous reply.

He is already 26, and isnt the future. They will likely draft the future in 2014.
He is only 25 and will be so til about the end of the season.

If Romo retires when he is 35/36 Tanney will be 30.

No, actually he will be 27/28 respectively. when Romo is 35 in the 2015 season, Tanney will be 27 (turning 28 at the end of the season). When Romo is 36 in the 2016 season, Tanney will be 28 (turning 29 at the end of the season).

If you're going to post, you should really know what youre talking about... Although I like Tanney, I don't see him as the future because I see Romo playing til about 38/39 and that would leave Tanney being 30/31 respectively and that is just a little too old for a "future." Now if Romo gets hurt or retires at 35/36 and Tanney is younger than Brandon Weeden (who was drafted at 29 with a 1st round pick) I am ok with that. if you can get 7 good years out of a QB that us fine by me. If he has less wear and you manage to get a full 10 then great! of course its nice when you can draft a 23 year old and get over a decade, but that doesn't even happen that often.

Most forget that Roger came to the Cowboys at the ripe old age of 28 and he played ten great seasons after earning a starting job. If the talent is there, the age does not matter.

Especially if, much like Roger, the "football years" are low. Although, this is why I don't think Tanney will work out as well; Romo has low football years because he sat for a while. Barring injury, he will play into his late 30's.

The guy played D3 ball. It's a pure longshot and reason why he's been cut by other teams. This team's Qb of the future will be in an upcoming draft. I needed good laugh this morning....

Again, while I don't disagree that it's a long-shot, you people need to read. He was not cut from "teams" just a singular team. He was also not cut due to his skill. It was all about new regime. This board is too full of posters who just spew garbage and then other posters read it and think its true. This is just a mild case of that, but its pretty rampant.

What interests me is..what influence will Garrettt have on him.?

He's had an enormous impact on Romo, I think good and bad. But Romo had gotten his first few years in that Parcells era and he had Parcells, Wade Wilson, Sean Payton..and others to give him his basics which turned out pretty well in Romo.

But it's pretty much just Garrett weaning him. Not sure with so much on the line this year..that Garrett has much time for him.

We'll see.

Thats a great pic of Garrett. I'll never forget Switzer talking to the press after that Thanksgiving day game. I believe the first thing he said was "I guess we got a quarterback controversy now?"

Excuse me if i'm rusty, havn't posted in some time on here. But is Alex the QB of the future? I watched his YouTube trick shot highlights and he's got and accurate cannon, it seems. I believe he's only 24. Groom him for 2 years and throw him in and see what he can do? You know Jerry loves these types of story's, buffs his resume.

This. I read that his footwork is horrible and he can't get used to the speed of the NFL. I know the footwork can probably be corrected but the other is something that he may or may not master...

Well, in all fairness, this is the first time he's been exposed to the Speed of the NFL..... He was previously with the Chiefs, after all. ;)

I'm not sure if it was just a tryout or what but Tanney went to Buffalo first and then was picked up by KC.

Romo is an exception to the rule, not the rule. I hope Tanney can make the team and can develop but without even seeing him play 1 pre season let alone a reg season to claim him as the next starting QB for the Cowboys? That is a bit of a reach

The key to Tanney is how quickly he can process the defense, make his reads, buy time in the pocket and make good decisions.

He has enough size, athleticism, arm strength and accuracy. It sounds like he has decent intelligence and football intelligence as he grew up around the game.

He also has been very productive albeit at a lower level of play.

I'm very interested in how he plays as preseason. I think there may be something to him and we are desperate for a developmental QB.

I am a bit worried about Orton and all the reports of losing zip. He is quite young and seemed to have decent zip a year ago so I am a bit surprised that he would start to lose it this early in his career without injury but the camp reports have been far from glowing. With Romo still bothered by his bad back it may make sense to go with 3 QBs this year.

Someone posted that Romo will be here until he's like 38? Only if he wins a SB or two.....

You don't think Tanney can be another "exception"? Cowboys are EXTREMELY lucky to get Tanney.
