You hope they hand out punishments until it hurts the Cowboys. You guys are really overblowing this situation. Competitive men on a field together are bound to get into a scuffle.

A scuffle is one thing, punching another guy in the face is another.

Do I care personally? No. But, these guys are role models, believe it or not. And we don't need kids thinking throwing punches because "some guy bumped you wrong" or because you think they "cheap shot" you.

As someone who ran with with the wrong crowd during a dumber phase of my life, I can tell you nothing good ever comes from that, and will end up with someone seriously injured or sent to prison when you least expect it. That shouldn't be supported and it sets a terrible example.

Nope, if Dez Bryant was the one who punched another player in the face, I'd be saying the same thing.

We just had a player a week ago punch and break a players jaw. Anywhere outside of football and that would have been assault charges. I see no reason why in football this is considered differently.

Because it arguably violates the Personal Conduct Policy just as much as some of the other cases that the league office investigates.

Says who? It's a part of the game. It may be an ugly part at times but it's undoubtedly a part of the game, and it's an accepted part of the game. What happened when Dez and Patmon got into a fight? Posted on the team website so everyone could see it.

http://www.dallascowboys.com/video/2015/08/02/dez-bryant-tyler-patmon-fight-full-video-reaction

If you want to try and squeeze it into the Personal Conduct Policy you might have a hard time doing so without getting past the first sentence.

“conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League.”

Fights between players on the field are not detrimental to the integrity of the game. They happen in all sports and they're basically league sanctioned in the NHL. Fights on the field are also not detrimental to the public's confidence in the NFL. Watch the videos and you'll see that most of the crowd loves it, just as hockey fans like to see the gloves come off.

If it were up to me, cheap-shot punches between plays would get my attention as detrimental conduct before off-hours pot-smoking.

The relative amount of wrongdoing associated with either is irrelevant. Should players be punished for pot? I don't really care. The NFL will likely not remove all repercussions from that activity until it's legal on a federal level. Until then it's against the rules.

Should players be punished for getting into fights at practice? I don't see why they should, but I wouldn't really shed a tear if the NFL decided they were going to punish players for it. I think punishing them would be a waste of time, and may actually be counterproductive. Rather than vent or lose their cool in a supervised environment while wearing pads, who's to say that players won't hold onto that anger and follow a guy to the parking lot where no one really knows what happened?

It's a physical game full of emotions and pride. They are inevitable. You can't ask a guy to battle in the trenches day-in and day-out and not expect someone's tempter to get the best of him. If you watch the video from Dez and Patmon, you can see that neither player was even concerned with the fight afterwards and both guys had already moved on from the incident.

Because football is different. Like it or not, it is different.

Remember the Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin saga? Guess which guy isn't in the league any more. The entire league knows that the NFL is not a cubicle job.

The Rams won't hesitate to hit someone, and some of their shots were of the 'cheap' variety.

There is no doubt that Dez constantly prodding the Rams with his verbal barbs played into this some. That is Dez though, and I love it. I wouldn't change it if I could. It did infuriate the Rams to no end however, lol.

What I loved was seeing how the Cowboys didn't put up with one iota of the Rams BS though. Patmon saying he didn't even know what happened but he entered the fray without a helment because he saw his team mates in a melee.

This will only serve to tighten this team's bonds with one another. I love this team.

Absolutely. The family that fights together stays together.

It's only different because the NFL overlooked these things in the past, like you know, domestic abuse.

And seeing as how there was already talk about the player getting hit with charges and Goodell now reviewing the situation, looks like these things will be taken seriously.

I understand what you're saying but at the same time......if these guys are role models for our kids we have bigger problems than a scuffle. I can understand being the inspiration for some kids but these guys should not be role models.

Because its football. In this sport......guys have broken necks, torn ACL's, broken legs, arms, etc. Its a violent sport. To expect these guys to be anything other than violent is wishful thinking IMO.

What? You're making these men sound like psychopaths.

Football is NOT "Injure the opponent" - football is prevent the football carrier to advance the ball. The NFL DOES NOT condone purposely injuring other football players.

Some of you need to rethink your arguments here.

LOL..........so you think that's what football is about? You don't think guys try to hurt or injure their opponents? The NFL may not condone it but you're kidding yourself if you think players aren't trying to hurt other players. And I do believe some of them are psychopaths.

I guess we will never know, but Jonathan Martin removed himself from the league.

And this changes things how? What if Martin knew he would never be anything more than the "snitch" who sold out his teammates? Seriously, when players from other teams are defending the guy who treated you like complete scum of the earth, what room do you have in the league?
