As of right now Dallas has 4.9mil in cap room. Dallas cant make these trades unless they work out deals with these guys at the time of trade with new deals in place. Because as of right now Sherman has a 11mil cap hit for the team trading for him, The prorated SB money is taken out as his total hit is 14mil+ but that prorated stays with SEA. Richardson has no Prorated left so his cap hit is 8mil for the team. So unless Dallas has 19mil as time of trade they cant trade for them unless they work out new deals for these two players which isnt going to get done is the 5mins that Dallas is on the clock.
I think thats why posters are using the madden reference to your mock.
Again, I said that the assumption was that the team would create the necessary cap room. Teams have talks before they actually make the trades. There are conversations going on right now that might not go anywhere or they are working up to a trade. Sherman has two years left on his deal and his 2017 cap number can be brought down to $6M without Sherman losing a penny. Your acting as if Stephen Jones is all by himself. The Cowboys have multiple people; salary cap experts, personnel people, Jerry, Will McClay, Jason Garrett, etc. who could be working the phones, dealing with agents, negotiating and restructuring deals.
I said right away that this is not what I think is going to happen. I am saying it is doable.
Okay, before everyone gets upset. This is not what I think will happen. This is just a mock that assumes a few things:
Also, I used CBS Sports rankings for the picks for the Cowboys.
- The Cowboys believe they are close to contending and are a few defensive players away.
- The team will make the necessary adjustments (exercise Jason WItten's $4 million, restructure players, sign incoming players to extensions lowering their 1st year cap #, etc.)
- Rumors about teams wanting to trade these veterans are true.
