The wife and I are thinking of vacating this summer (before the season starts, of course!). We want to go to an all-inclusive type resort that isn't kid-ville, but not Hedonism, either... someplace good for couples. Spa is a requirement. Any suggestions?

The Moon palace is VERY nice, but a little isolated... I've also stayed at the Sun Palace...

Cancun is nice but it has grown so much that it's like an MTV Party all the time. That's great if that is what you are looking for...

I've started staying a little further South in Playa del Carmen. It's much more laid back. Now it does have a large European consortium so if you can get used to a lot of topless women you'll be fine. And I mean all ages...

I usually stay at the Iberostar which is really nice and there are many other nice resorts down there. You can go into the village which still has the Old Mexico charm, plus you are closer to Mayan Ruins at Tulum and Xel-Ha which is a really cool natural aquarium where you can snorkel with fish and swim with the Dolphins. Tours are always extra so keep that in mind.

Ice is right, they take REALLY good care of you and they even have waiters that serve drinks and snacks on the beach. One word of caution, don't pile on the drinks while laying out on the beach. You are very close to the equator and the sun is in full burn mode starting around 9:00 in the morning. It is VERY intense. If you lay out on the beach pounding margaritas you will dehydrate very fast and could pass out. It can be very dangerous.

Like Ice said, Moon palace is definitely a nice place. Sun Palace is older and on the main strip of beach in Cancun so you have more access to the city, but it has become so Americanized it's not a whole lot different than Miami Beach.

Both places are nice, but I prefer Playa for the charm...
