Am I missing something??
What's all the buzz about him?
I mean, I know he's a good coach, but a hot commodity??

I just don't see it.

I'll tell Ya, If we throw this next year away with plans on making a run at him in 08, I'm going to kinda miffed.

He's a good coach, no doubt. But the thought of bringing in a coach now just to make a run at him next year is ludacris imo

Let's compare ...

Code:
Year W L
---- -- --
1992 11 5
1993 9 7
1994 12 4
1995 11 5
1996 10 6
1997 11 5
1998 7 9
1999 6 10
2000 9 7
2001 13 3
2002 10 5
2003 6 10
2004 15 1
2005 11 5
2006 8 8 -- (This team was 2-7 and finished 6-1)
That's three losing records in 15 years.

The Steelers under Cowher have almost always finished strong every single year. The Cowboys? Call it a season at the end of November.

Total record as head coach .. 149-90

I'm sorry, but anyone who doesn't see that only proves they have their own agenda for another coach. Personally, I don't care who the coach is (other than I never ever ever ever want Buddy Ryan or any relative), all that matters to me is winning and Cowher has proved he's a winner.

No coach is perfect every single season .. even the great Belichick's Patriots missed the playoffs 2-3 years ago and his Browns sucked.

Who honestly thinks Jerry Jones would do this? No matter what coach he hires, even if he wanted another coach in a year, he would be a complete idiot to hire a coach with this good of a team to only be a lame duck for a year.

Let's say he wants Cowher or Fisher or whoever. Even if that is true, he is still going to hire a coach who gives the Cowboys a chance to win next season. If the coach he hires comes in and the team goes 11-5 or better and at least goes deep into the playoffs, I doubt very seriously he would fire him just to get the guy he wanted a year ago at that time.

If we don't win the SB next year, I wouldn't be surprised if he did just that.

cant argue with his overall record...but the multiple home field playoff losses and the whole Kordell Stewart love thing makes me think Cowher isnt anywhere near as good as people make him out to be...

There was a time I thought that Jerra would hire an assistant to keep the seat warm until Cowher has his year off.
Then we'd have a coach with a winning record and someone who's shown loyalty to a franchise by staying many, many years.
With Turner he'll want a commitment of several years.
So forget about Cowher.
And get used to more mediocrity.

All excellent points by Reality first off.

Kordell Stewart was a fascinating athlete around the time that he nicknamed "Slash". He was truly dangerous. I remember back in the mid-1990s around the time of our 5th Super Bowl how Stewart was gaining so much popularity, so I don't think you can blame Cowher for Stewart's complete meltdown. Some promising athletes just suck it up.

Bottom line, the AFC has truly been the dominant conference for the past few years and Cowher has had great records and teams throughout that whole time. The QB position is what gets most teams through in the end. That's why Brady has 3 rings right now and why Manning is playing for one this year. With the exception of the Ravens Super Bowl run, almost every team has had a solid and stable QB lead the way to a ring each time. This is why Parcells failed to win one in Dallas, and why Cowher only won once in Pittsburgh. If Romo develops like we all hope he's going to, Cowher has the proven ability to take us all the way.

This ability is something that Norv, Philips, or one of the other buffoons we're gonna end up with don't have. But we'll just have find that out the hard way I guess, when we're competing with the Commanders for last place in the NFC East.
