Most are going to pick Jaws, because it's the most rememberable. So that's kind of like asking for a favorite theme song to a TV show. Most would pick Gilligan's Island. But just to go a different way I'd say....

Love Song by 311 for 50 First Dates.
The theme song for Ghost Busters that was a top ten hit would be my third choice.

There are so many I have loved over the years that it is impossible to pick one.

I would probably have about 50 on my list. And have no way to rank them.

Most of those mentioned so far would be on it.

Chariots of Fire is a great one. The background of the father with the young son watching was so well done.
Who Wants to Live Forever in Highlander is so poignant. The scene where McLeod walks away leaving his clan sword marking his ladies grave...

There are just so many. The Rocky movies training scenes are excellently set off with music. 1,2 and 4 especially.

Some very obscure movies have excellent songs in them. Last Flight of Noah's Ark is probably unknown to virtually everyone here but its theme song Half of Me is fine.

Theme songs and scores are not the same thing. Scores are larger and cover the entire film.

You want a theme song, how about "As Time Goes By" from Casablanca
"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from the Wizard of Oz
"The Way We Were" from same
"Days of Wine and Roses" from same
"Love Story" from same
"Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's
"The Hills Are Alive" from The Sound of Music
"Staying Alive" from Saturday Night Fever Note here, if you get the chance to watch the Robert Stigwood doc and just how that film and entire soundtrack came about, it is well worth the time. I had little knowledge of the background and the war he was in with Michael Eisner before he took over Disney. Great story.

When i think of Breakfast at Tiffany's film, somehow i tend to think more of the Deep Blue Something's version of Breakfast at Tiffany's song ...

P.S. ..i'm currently YouTubing most of these theme songs in above listing you've posted .....

Smokey and the Bandit is popcorn music. Light in taste and does not last.

IT was enjoyable but that was all.

Certainly does not deserve mention with the all time greats.

Sorry, is your sophisticated musical palate offended?

It's a great song that gets your blood pumping. It ain't Mozart, but not everyone likes Mozart.

Hey, I am talking all time great movie themes and smoky just falls short. You don't like my opinion? Should I care?

Have to laugh at your scaredy cat little insult about sophisticated palate. Feeling inadequate?
Having trouble feeling macho?

Wow, you just brought this to a whole new level...a stupid level, but a new one. That's the most idiotic post I've seen in a long time. What kind of moron thinks other people are "scaredy cats" online?

When you opine that someone else 's opinion is wrong, you should expect that person to express how they feel about your opinion, and not pretend you're above caring...which pretty much proves you care.
