Interesting
You seem to be missing Unitas and some of these guys may not have enough reps

The one I did left out some oldies like Filchock, Danowski and others not named Graham, etc.

But independently, both of us had
  • Staubach in 6-7 range
  • Romo in 12-14 range
  • Prescott in the 35-37 range
Others on mine
4) Mahomes
10) Starr
15) Unitas
34) Meredith
I only posted the top 40 for space concerns. Here is the full list (Unitas is 41), minus some of the data to fit the character limit.

IMHO 2020 was actually worse than the rankings show. we played 4 totally inept offenses with three teams having their 2nd and 3rd string QBs at the end of the year...up to that point, we were last in everything I believe and still on pace for setting historical futility. those last 4 games helped skew things a bit
I agree that the defense was totally putrid the 1st half of the season and improved later, but in part due to facing weak offenses.
The "historic futility" stuff didn't hold up for the whole season. Numbers don't tell it all, but averages are averages---you have to include the whole data set.

Other teams that also stunk early in the year were specifically the pass defenses for Atlanta, Seattle, and Cleveland.
But they got better later in the year.
We had the good fortune to face those 3 of the worst-in-league pass defenses and put up big numbers....but our own D sucked so bad that we only managed one luck (onside kick) win. smh

I don't have a dog in this fight but If you check the D from 2016 (when Dak got here) the D was been around average except for 2020 - which Dak didn't really play much and when he did, he was not helping them with all his turnovers. 2013 has zero bearing on anything Dak related and since the quote was "Dak has only played with one bad defense", it would seem anything prior to 2016 is irrelevant.
I wasn't in the Dak this or Dak that conversation.
I was just referring to Cowboys defenses overall

Mahomes is an all pro. no one is denying that. but at least you are comparing Dak to the right group of QBs...its an improvement on your part.

with that Said, Kelce is an all pro, so is Tyreek Hill which puts them at a different level than just a good WR. they are difference makers. its not just having those players....in comparison Dak had Cooper, Witten and Gallup....
They also had all pro OL men on the team (1st team and 2nd team) over the past 3 years as well as on defense (1st team and 2nd team) over the past three years...

they have also had several OL men in the probowl in the past few years.

so there is some talent around Mahomes...the cupboard is not empty.

and you are right, Dak may not have played in 2016 if not for injuries and I wonder if that's talent evaluation process being faulty. are there other players on the team, not being recognized for their talent....I have always faulted our defensive talent evaluation process that had netted one good player in 15 years from 2005 through 2020....namely Lawrence..

so would Mahomes win a superbowl and go to another one if he was in Dallas vs. KC. I am not sure (much like you) given we had Garrett and then MC and a really bad defense (which even mahomes couldn't over come based on history). would he have done better? of course. no denying that....its Mahomes after all. but superbowls, I think it would be safe to say fat chance. Dallas is where you go to bury a career....
This is a reasonable responds and I agree with a lot of what you said.

I do think Mahomes has at least 1 ring if he played in Dallas though.

QBR turns out some weird stuff at times. Then again, so does regular QB rating, though not as much imo.

I was a HUGE David Garrard fan--mainly because he went to my undergrad school and he was a great guy--but top 11 in NFL history. Good lordy. I do think he was underrated, but good grief.
And Vince Young top 25....lmao
QBR can be so bizarre. It hyper-inflates rushing stats onto the QB position at times.

Our worst defense as measure by Total Defense was 2013, but 2020 was pretty bad overall when you add in scoring.
Defenses were down NFL-wide last year, so it's usually best to measure them by how they compare to others that year.
.
2013
32nd Total Defense
26th Scoring Defense

2020
23rd Total Defense
28th Scoring Defense

In general, our defenses are usually in 10-20 range.
I'm not sure where the cutoff for "good" is. 32 teams, so the top 20% would be in the 6-7 range.

That 2013 D was bad. But it was completed wiped out with injuries. I think we had something like 18 different starting D Linemen that year due to injuries. I am pretty sure I was next on their call sheet if they had any other injuries. It was a shame too because I think with a half way decent D, 2013 would have been like 2014 instead of 8-8.

Thank you, sir.

These people are so in their feels that they will disregard all stats in favor of their opinions. The mental gymnastics you have to play to defend Dak all the time with the numbers smacking you in the face is amazing to see.

9 other teams had worst total defenses in 2020:lmao::lmao2:

This is a reasonable responds and I agree with a lot of what you said.

I do think Mahomes has at least 1 ring if he played in Dallas though.
we will never know. but I think Mahomes plays in the perfect offensive system and a great offensive mind in Reid. He is one of the most under rated coaches in the NFL. he adjusts his system to his QB and he did with McNabb, Smith and then he got Mahomes and just took his scheme and offense to a different level...Garrett was the type to fit a square peg in a round hole by pounding it harder.....

Yeah, agreed. Interesting to compare Passer rating and QBR rankings. Romo is 20 spots ahead of Dak on passer rating, but QBR that factors in running, they are essentially even. If Dak can keep his running game with his ankle and continue to improve as a passer, well, we are fortunate to have him. We have been pretty lucky QB-wise as a franchise.

1 Aaron Rodgers 104.93
2 Steve Young* 96.81
3 Tom Brady 96.62
4 Peyton Manning 95.71
5 Tony Romo 95.62
6 Philip Rivers 94.53
7 Drew Brees 94.27
8 Kurt Warner 93.71
9 Ben Roethlisberger 92.69
10 Joe Montana* 92.26

Nice to see Romo on there. At 97.3 QB rating Dak would be #2 all time if he continues his current pace.

It's hard to knock Romo's numbers, just like it's hard to knock Dak's. Hopefully, Prescott will end up with some better overall teams so that he'll have more than stats to earn him a place among the top QBs.

Despite Romo's rating among quarterbacks in the Hall of Fame or headed there, he's sure to be snubbed due to the lack of team success in the playoffs.

Agree completely. Jerry and Garrett have ruined two careers thus far with great QB's.

They weren’t playing in pass happy league. The only HOFamers from previous era is Montana and Young cause 49ers were a pass happy team from that era.

if passer rating is the blindfold were wearing today the NFl fans are missing what made NFL the iconic game it has become.
Now the WR's today are magic no doubt and the new classes of QB's may become the greatest I dont know.

The QB passer rankings should be presented per era instead of all time.

Staubach for example had one of the highest passer ratings in his era but it doesn’t measure up this era because they simply didn’t pass the ball as much.

The change of rules and emphasis on passing has skewed the rankings for this era.

And Romo simply didn’t have the longevity to compile career stats without more team success. Due to injuries he only played 7 complete seasons. 2007, 08, 09,11,12,13 and 14.

That’s really not long enough to make a greater impact to be considered for HOF without some Rings.

I posted on page 10 a list that normalizes passer rating across years. Indeed Staubach is high on that list.

This should tell you this list has no meaning at all. These numbers have no context nor scrutiny looking for the eras and how the rules affected the list.

This is a prime example of why I believe stats are crap on the bottom of your shoe.
