From an article about the Iverson book.

Wrote Babb: "Some were entertained, and others watched the train wreck unfold, knowing from experience that Iverson was drunk."

King tried to think of a way to stop the press conference, the book said, while Croce, watching on television, said he suspected Iverson was drunk and asked his wife to shut off the TV.

John Smallwood, a Daily News columnist who was in attendance, was also quoted as saying: "He was lit. If he had been sober, he would have been able to get himself out of that. He never would've gone down that path. Maybe you had to have been around him all the time to know the difference, but we all knew."

According to article it is

I'm not trying to quarrel or hijack your thread.... I read the article, and several other articles like it.. the only thing they can say is "according to a book published this week."
So i just wanted the title to reflect that.. since the man is already a pin cushion, and very misunderstood..... If he was or wasn't no one can absolutely say.

This doesnt sound like speculation to me:

John Smallwood, a Daily News columnist who was in attendance, was also quoted as saying: "He was lit. If he had been sober, he would have been able to get himself out of that. He never would've gone down that path. Maybe you had to have been around him all the time to know the difference, but we all knew."

So John Smallwood is trusted, he's a human breathalyzer? I'm familiar with John Smallwood, and his work........ the book writer was looking for sensationalism and got it...
and now the back and forth begins:
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/1...llen-iverson-denied-being-drunk-practice-rant
"They had no idea my best friend had just got killed. The press conference wasn't about practice. It was about me being [possibly] traded from Philadelphia. Nobody ever talked about that, never heard why I was upset or what the conference was about."

Im not trying to take sides.. all I mentioned was if there could be an "allegedly" in the title... I think thats fair because there is no proof....
I said my peace...

Be Well... I'll move on.

Wasnt the friend killed 7 months before? Not like the day before . . .

And to be honest I dont spend much time around drunks but I can tell when somebody is lit. Its pretty obvious in person.

A few weeks ago I was driving up the road and there was an old guy lying in the road. He had fallen down and scraped his arm up. Traffic stopped and me and a couple other guys got out of our trucks/cars to help the guy. No breathalyzer was needed to tell he was drunk. And it wasnt just because he was still clutching his case of Bud as he lay in the road. Drunk is pretty easy to spot.

So in this case, unless you have reason to believe Smallwood and the others have reason to lie or speculate I dont have a problem with what they said.

I would have admitted I was drunk even if I wasn't to explain that press conference. It's a joke now and being drunk would explain it.

You are very honest and forthcoming when drunk.

He didn't feel practice was necessary... Sober or drunk.
